"The Hilton was disappointing. The toilet paper was incredibly thin, the plumbing gurgled, the balcony had no seating so we couldn’t sit and enjoy the view. Breakfast was poor, no table service and lukewarm flask water for tea, breakfast was too early with advice to ‘get up early and avoid the crowds’. The bathroom was poorly fitted, with a flooding sink, really bog standard shower gel and soap which ran out and was not replaced, a tiny shower cubicle that you could hardly turn around in, no...

"Our room was in the Old Swan,it is a property that the Old Lodge must own. It's a few minutes walk from the lodge.It was ok but wouldn't stay again. Breakfast was lovely,fresh fruit, croissants, everything cooked to order. The only niggle was that we went for a drink in the lounge about 9 o clock,and it was just staff stood there ,one was swearing,which I don't think was acceptable in a posh establishment and while guests were present . Check in staff were lovely,but we won't be staying again."

"Great "boutique" hotel - and not super expensive - easy walk from the train station (and as an added bonus, close to the river and inside the city walls). Rooms were clean and very quiet. Had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant (and as a bit of an aficionado, perhaps the best fish and chips I have ever had). I had no idea York had so much to do - if you wanted to explore in depth, you could easily spend a week! Walking the walls alone, and taking it all in, could easily take a half day, and...

"Good location and just outside Whitby town with easily accessible bus stops. Free car parking for guest. Food typical chain and overpriced and under taste. Room decent size but no lounging chairs. Tv not smart and too small. No fridge. Bed very uncomfortable. Shower over bath and shower curtain. Not for me."

"The staff at Ascot House were great. The breakfasts are pretty much set with some exceptions if you don't like something, the chef tries to accommodate when it's possible which is a great thing to be able to offer. The owner June does a great job with keeping Ascot House friendly and accessible to all people. We had a lovely time staying here and visiting York."

"Enjoyed the stay but it was noisy trying to get to sleep in the cottage room and I’m curious as to why there were only 9 loungers in the spa but there are 60 bedrooms ? I had to sit on a chair .. not really the spa experience I was looking for. Also another gripe of mine is no full length mirrors in bedrooms ? And no table near a mirror to sit and dry hair and do makeup ? It’s the little things that make all the difference."
