"The hotel is in a lovely setting and at first sight seemed to be everything you’d want in a country house hotel. The receptionist was very friendly, gave a short history of the hotel and showed us to our room, pointing out the facilities and where to find them. I had booked the restaurant prior to arrival. The evening meal on the first night was tasty, breakfast on both mornings also good, using good quality ingredients. The evening meal on the second night was not so good and left us feeling that some elements of it were too fussy with too many flavours put together. The vegetarian soufflé was awful, just a mound of stodge. We felt that £75 per person was far too much to pay for a three course meal especially as we had no alcohol with dinner.
On looking around further, the hotel is a bit tired and rundown, a long handled cob webber is required, the window casements need cleaning, the sealant in the bathroom had black spots and wall paint needed touching up.
The hotel is handy for visiting Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses and Holy Island."
