"Unfortunately this was very poor.
When I arrived in my room after 8pm the balcony door was wide open, on a chilly windy October evening - so the room was cold with insects flying around from the neighbouring lake. The TV did not have any channels working, and when I went to reception to ask about this and the door being left open I was told ‘this is all out of our hands’ with no offer of alternative room or reduction in the price - given they advertised 22 channels on being available this is...
"What a lovely welcoming Hotel. Loved the ambience from the moment we walked in the door. Reception staff excellent. Our room was also very nice. We had dinner and this was so good. 5 stars all round."
"Excellent hotel in lovely historical grounds amazing value (dinner included in price - 3 course meal). Food very good, bar nice. Parking on site. Just outside Dumfries town centre. A former hospital site, which is also a University campus - lovely grounds for a walk"
"Unfortunately another disappointing night at the Inn. Went for a meal, again staffing issues with chefs resulting in quite a few things not being available. I thought there was a wedding function going on as every now and then loud music would blast through the restaurant area but it was just the music coming from the kitchen area as the doors swung open and closed. Sadly in need of a makeover."
"The room was lovely but the sink in the en-suite was tiny & hard to get a wash or clean your teeth in without getting water everywhere. The front of the sink unit was already water damaged. The shower was good & easy to use.
The lady who greeted us was very helpful & friendly especially as we forgot to take our key out with us & had to ask her to let us in to our room. Nothing seemed like too much trouble for her. There was a good choice for breakfast which was cooked to order"
"We stayed just the one night. The staff were very friendly and eager to provide good service. We enjoyed a pleasant drink on the lovely patio overlooking the river followed by a tasty meal in the bar. Breakfast was excellent . Our room was fairly basic with quite a small ensuite . The WiFi was good. We were pleased with our stay which represented good value."

The staff went above and beyond to be helpful, although they often had to juggle multiple roles at once, which sometimes made them difficult to find. Overall, I had a very pleasant stay, and if I return to Castle Douglas, I would happily stay here again."
"Great location - approx. 50m from the railway station and 400m from Loreburn Hall, the venue for the gig we went to. Quality breakfast. Lovely B&B - our bedroom had a proper-sized TV, the central lounge was bright and tastefully furnished, the breakfast room had great bay windows and quality furniture. Doonhamer hospitality. Adequate on-site parking."
"We always have a great time at the Hopetoun. The rooms are spacious, cosy and clean, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is always amazing! We look forward to going back - highly recommended!"
