"I loved this old hotel for is quirky charm and character. Wasn't so keen on the six spiders living in the corners of our bedroom! There was no phone in the room, as advertised in the welcome page, so we had to go down to ask for things but the staff were so friendly and helpful. Would def stay again. Lovely and quiet and very spacious room with a great view. Would def benefit from a fan as it was roasting in our room. Breakfast was lovely and the whole stay was very good value for money."
"A beautiful old property with stunning grounds and views, friendly, helpful staff, and an old fashioned wood panelled interior. The public areas and dining area are lovely. I had a single room with comfy bed, plenty of tea/coffee & storage. England suite was well equipped. l was a little surprised at the marks on the paintwork around the bed for such a high quality hotel, but this didn't affect my stay"
"Staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Great advice and what to see and do locally. Perfect location by the motorway but beautiful scenery next to the lake and hills.
Room & building was a little tired but perfectly fine for a dog friendly stay."
"We booked one of the nicer rooms. It seemed like a renovation project had been started but not finished. Half the wooden floor had been sanded and in places patched, the rest was stained. Shower was a clunky 70’s spa tub which ran hot and cold without any changes to the lever. Cupboard with glass doors was missing glass in one of them. Exterior of the hotel looked run down. On the plus side the staff were friendly and very helpful and the cooked breakfast tasty. Parking was fine and location was...

The view from the room was lovely, the bed was comfortable and clean. Shower was nice and warm. Plenty of tea/coffee provided. My meal in the bar was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful.
It is a very old coaching inn, and needs a little tlc in places (e.g, the corridors/stairs could do with a lick of paint) but this is reflected in the price. The room was nicely decorated and well presented. I enjoyed my stay & will happily stay again in the future."
"3 nights in late July. Hotel is a great place to stay to experience the Lake District, not far from Ambleside but remote enough to feel like you are really in nature.
Staff and breakfast were excellent.
Walk up to Stickle Tarn was a good test with a couple of scrambly bits but well worth it once you got there."

We ate in the restaurant for dinner and would definitely recommend and the breakfast was really tasty.
Beds really comfortable and clean! Room has everything you need.
