"If you don’t mind the smell from the hot spring water, the room with private hot spring is the must. Enjoyed it a lot while staying there. The staff are very helpful and trying hard to speak English for their service. The owner is very nice and friendly."

"We had a lovely family stay at this ryokan in Shibu Onsen. Our room was river-view, with a beautiful sitting area. It was also a half-board rate, which meant we got to enjoy traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner each day. The public bath I used was lovely, especially the outdoor area. We also used the private onsen as a family, which was great! Easy to walk around town, and the shuttle service to the train station and the snow monkeys was very helpful. The staff were so hospitable and kind, we felt very cared for during our stay."

"This is our second time staying here. We come to Japan every few years because my wife loves the snow monkeys. The staff here was very helpful and communicated clearly. They'll arrange shuttle pickup from the Yadanaka local station because it can be hard to find of you're not familiar with the area. You really should get the half board and do traditional Japanese breakfast and breakfast. It is a peaceful and intimate look into traditional Japan. You can see the pride taken in the work. We will stay here every time we come to Japan."

"This traditional ryotan was wonderful. It was a blend of traditional Japanese with modern updates. We booked a suite that had western beds and a private onsen. Our sons shared a smaller room with tatami mats. We selected the traditional dinner and breakfast which were wonderful experiences. If you do not like traditional Japanese food you may not like the meal option. The service was great and staff helpful, despite some language limitations. It was very conveniently located near the train station and monkey park. They provided shuttles services which we found helpful."

"While this is an older hotel, it is clean, things are in working order, and rather charming and unique. For example, I had a large room with a small patio that offered a beautiful view of the city. It’s in a quaint quiet town with gorgeous views of the mountains surrounding the town. I appreciated the thoughtful touch of hot green tea. The thermos amazingly kept the water hot even till the next morning. Because I went during « low » season in May, I was able to enjoy the onsen to myself ! The host/owner is a sweet man. It is rather expensive for one night but I did not regret my stay. I did get plenty of exercise being on the fourth floor with no elevator."
