Such a beautiful peaceful comfortable place and very close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The neighborhood is also perfect for long walks and is closer to restaurants and gift shops.

The house is lovely. Very nicely furnished and comfortable. Loved the fireplace and back porch. It has everything you need. The location is quiet - the only noise was from birds chirping and the feral pigs who appeared in the back yard. Very close to the National Park. We loved it and would come again.

We stayed at Hale Hapu'u in June 2024 and loved it! It was the best set up for us while we visited Volcano, HI. We had two families with teenagers, so the set up was great! The kids loved exploring around the property and listening to the tree frogs at night. The location was perfect, the drive to Volcanoes National Park was super close. We enjoyed spending an entire day in the park and having a quick drive back to the house. We loved the house, the decor was awesome, appliances and kitchen were great because we were able to make meals for the whole crew and hang out playing board games and cards at night. The hosts were great, they checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed and didn't have any questions. We would highly recommend Hale Hapu'u, the hosts and Vacasa. A++++

Loved this home! Besides the gorgeous scenery and peaceful, secluded setting in a beautiful tropical garden, you must appreciate the owner's taste and attention to detail. The carved doors and furniture pieces are gorgeous. The home is full of charm and character. Very spacious and cozy space. Plenty of clean linens and beach towels. There was no funky smell, contrary to some reviews. Thank you for making our time in the Volcano so comfortable and memorable. Would definitely rent it again.

When we first arrived in this house our jaws dropped. The layout and decor are superb and location great for Volcano. The place is super well equipped, awesomely quiet and comfortable. A perfect romantic getaway. We’d have been delighted to stay here forever. We did have an issue with the internet (new router password) and getting one heater to work (unusual controls, missing instructions) but the owners/agency were quite responsive and we resolved these. We’d come here again in a heartbeat.

Our family of 5 stayed here in July. It was clean up on arrival and had plenty of towels and extra blankets for cooler nights. A couple of suggestions: 1. Upstairs and downstairs bathrooms privacy could be improved with opaque film over the windows as the showers are exposed to the outside. 2. The downstairs bedroom suite has a sewage smell. We opened the windows and doors to try to air it out, but it was not the solution. There may be something wrong with the leach field for the sewer that needs repair. Other than that, it was a beautiful stay in the volcano rainforest. Close to the VNP, Hilo, waterfall hikes, etc.

Great property in great location, but our stay was marred by multiple problems and slow service response. The most significant were repeated issues with the digital door lock, the smoke alarm battery (10' off the floor) going off from 2am onwards, and poor response times from Turnkey.

The main part of the home was great—kitchen, living room, bathroom, and upstairs bedroom and bathroom. They were very cute, spacious, and clean. If the whole house were that way, it would deserve a five star review. Unfortunately, the master bedroom in the annex was another story. It was slightly less clean. But the main problem is that it smelled like sewage. We noticed the problem as soon as we ran the washing machine, and the smell persisted (as we continued to do loads of wash). Fortunately, the smell did not get into the main part of the house. But it was really a downer for my wife and me who slept in that bedroom. I would book this home again only if I knew that problem were resolved.

We stayed at this beautiful home as a base to explore Volcanoes National Park and the Puna region. Once we found it (navigate to "Hale Hapu'u" rather than an address if using Google maps) check in was simple and all code-based. Everything was spotless. The home is more spacious than we expected and beautifully designed and decorated with Asian influence. It is one of a kind and created a serene environment, our own oasis. With three full baths and two bedrooms with king size beds, our family of 4 was comfortable. There is plenty of seating and a well stocked kitchen for those inclined to cook or entertain a small gathering. The hosts and Vrbo staff were very helpful and responsive answering a question about the alarm system. The only downsides, which we knew going in, were the very limited services available in town. Volcano is clearly a B&B community so finding breakfast was a real challenge. We ended up grabbing cereal and bananas at the small store in town. I recommend meals at the volcano house in the park (which is allowing dine I seating, just not table service), Kilouea Lodge (excellent dinner and historic property) or heading all the way to Pahoa. We are very satisfied with our stay but would probably choose something more urban if we visit the area again.

We experienced several issues that limited our enjoyment of the property. 1) after we received a confirmation email that provided the gate code and security system code, we did not receive the front door code. It took more than hour on the phone, during which several excuses were made by turnkey and documentation was requested to verify our identities. An hour during which we were pulled over on a highway due to reception issues. Security is great, but we already had been given the gate code and the security system code. So it seemed like the property management bumbling rather than an actual security measure. 2) We asked if the water at the house was potable (a common question for rentals in the area). We received the response that it was not, then a follow up response during the gate code debacle stating yes the water is potable, then an email stating no, not potable. After staying there, it appeared the water was potable. A clear and accurate response would have been appreciated. 3) the stovetop worked fine, but the oven took 30 minutes to heat to 185 degrees.and leaked gas into the home. Obviously not operational. It took a somewhat frantic hour to purge the smell from the home. Needless to say, we did not get to use the oven during our stay. 4) in grabbing an oven mitt for holding a hot pan, I put oven mitt#1 back due to obvious damage. Oven mitt #2 looked better, but had a giant , unseen hole in the seem of the forefinger, which was perfectly positioned to receive a blistering burn on said finger. 5) while this may be petty, there was no laundry detergent in the home. The listing said a 'starter supply' would be provided. A little irritated by issues 1-4, we made a point of asking for the detergent. A delivery was promised by the management company...and the delivery never arrived. 6) this is definitely petty - homes in the area tend to provide local coffee, and sometimes local produce as a welcome gift. There was a coffee container in a basket that appeared to be used for this purpose but was conspicuously empty. We don't expect or require freebies, but we just thought that it was funny. 7) and the biggest concern: there is a security camera pointing directly at the primary bedroom, directly at the bed. Blinds can occlude it's view, but they were open when we arrived. Overall, an incredible, beautiful home - but an experience ruined by the management, safety concerns, and privacy concerns.

Two bedrooms both with comfy beds, beautiful lighting and outstanding showers. The large family room has enough beds and couches to accommodate the full 8 person max. An outdoor heated shower head made cleaning off from the beach a delightful experience and the property in general provides bountiful botanical delights. Full kitchen with more dishes than you could possibly use, and no empty cabinets for food. Plan on using counter space for any groceries. Info states the water isn't potable but we found the house was equipped with drinkable water filtration system so that's a plus! The property is not fully accessible but for the fully able it's a wonderful spot!!! Would definitely stay again

This house was perfect for our Christmas in Hawaii! It was clean, spacious, and comfy with a variety of sleeping options. Kitchen was well-stocked with supplies, and there was plenty of linens and towels for our family of 6. We loved this location near Volcano National Park and the artistic community it's situated in. The yard is beautiful.

Great stay in Volcano, just a few minutes from the park entrance. The house is special - completely isolated and surrounded by lush forest. Was great for both adults and kids. Note that while the kitchen is well equipped, there are not even the minimal supplies (salt, pepper, oil etc.) so plan on bringing everything with you...

Beautiful property tucked away near the end of neighborhood and street. The property was just as pictured. Beautiful home, beautifully decorated and surrounded by lush vegetation. If you plan on staying here, know that there are only a few restaurants in the village. There are only kitchen essentials. No spices or even salt and pepper. You will need to bring all food items and condiments with you. Other than that, it has ample space, nice linens and towels, complimentary bath & body products, and laundry & cleaning essentials. I loved the sound of the coqui frogs. My husband did not. Lol There are a pair of birds that roam the yard and a sweet smell in the air from the ginger plants. I recommend it for those that do not mind being in a rural area and want close proximity to the Volcano National Park.

This is probably the most unique and impressive vacation rental we have been to. The property is amazing! My family of 5 had enough room to spread out and be comfortable. The layout was perfect and it was truly a gem to stay here. Beds and bathrooms were comfortable and well appointed. Internet was super, although cell phone reception is spotty in the area (we could still call but at times we had low bars) Kitchen was well appointed but bring all spices and oils you want because there aren’t any Beware that the heat and a/c are not the strong points in this rental, but there are space heaters and fans that make it comfortable. Coqui frogs are plenty and it rains a lot but it all adds to the beauty of the space. This property is very close to VNP. Lots of space to work. All together, we loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone!
