Lakeside Hotel & Spa

Lakeside Hotel & Spa

8/10 Good
"First impressions were good. Room & bathroom clean. Got very warm during the night even though there was no heating on. Shame the main dining room wasn't open on Monday/Tuesday it looked a better menu choice than the brasserie. Overall staff were polite but the attitude during breakfast was generally unattentive & brusk. Would I go back? Probably"

Newby Bridge Hotel

Newby Bridge Hotel

8/10 Good
"I needed somewhere to stay close to a festival venue and Newby Bridge Hotel fitted the brief. The staff on reception desk were helpful and welcoming. The main hotel building shows signs of age and wear and tear in the corridors but the bedroom itself was clean and comfortable. The breakfast experience was a bit hit and miss - even before halfway through service things were running out and not replaced quickly. Staff were obviously working hard but the dining room was busy: there was also debris on the floor and tables not cleared quickly. Food was good and when dishes were replenished there was a good selection of cereals and continental style options as well as cooked items. Parking was a bit of an issue - perhaps the bays could be repainted to help clarify where 'double' rows are and assist with guests parking considerately and ensuring everyone is accommodated. I would however use this hotel again."

Beachside Cottage Idyllic Situation, Stunning Views Over Morecambe Bay

10/10 Excellent
"Had an absolutely lovely stay here with my family of 4. Both my kids have asked to return. The ease of stepping out into the beach meant evening walks tired the kids out. The property itself is rustic but has all the amenities you need. Would highly recommend"

"The hotel was great but getting taxis when there is a large retreat at the Budist temple can be challenging"

Bibby Lot - sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

Bibby Lot - sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

8/10 Good
"Bibby Lot is a self-catering property for up to six people. It has six beds (and even two refrigerators!), but we found the dining table and the space around it weren't really large enough for us to sit and eat together comfortably (and we're not large), particularly if someone needed to get to the stove or the fridge. As is often the case with self-catering properties, the kitchen equipment was a bit of a mismatch: mystery lids, a largest saucepan of only 2 litres, a pizza cutter but no bottle opener, and several items that had seen better days. This was surprising because the kitchen itself appears to have been recently fitted and is very attractive. In our experience, though, it wasn't especially well equipped for guests who enjoy cooking or eating together. Similarly, although the shower room also looked like a recent installation, there was nowhere convenient to hang towels or put toiletries. Given the number of dogs and young children on the estate, it might also be helpful to warn guests about ticks in advance or provide a tick remover. That said, these points may matter less to some visitors, particularly because Bibby Lot is surrounded by beautiful countryside. It's about a 20-minute walk to Lake Windermere and one of the nicest wild swimming spots I've visited. Some of our group also made good use of the swimming pool."
