Gull Cottage | Steps to Back River Beach

Gull Cottage is a charming 1920s honeymoon cottage just steps from the Back River beach. It's ideal for a romantic weekend for two! Enjoy spectacular sunsets, go beach fishing or fishing from the Back River fishing pier, or simply relax on the sand. Gull Cottage also features a private deck with a table and chairs for cookouts, as well as a gas grill. You might not want to leave our adorable little guest home because it is so comfortable and charming! A California King-size bed, brand new wood floors, bead-board walls, eclectic furnishings including antiques, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, washer/dryer, and more are just a few of the amenities.

Private parking for one in a yard shared part-time by the owners of the main house. WiFi internet access is available for guest use. There is a window AC/heat unit which does a good job of keeping the cottage comfortable for guests. This property is not pet-friendly.

The location is great for access to the beach. It is nice to be inside a gated property since it is right beside a public pier.The cottage is cute, quite small and basic.

Spring break

We stayed at gull cottage for a short spring break trip to Tybee Island. The cottage is on the property of a large house adjacent to a public beach. The cottage is clean and as pictured on vrbo. The beach is right outside your door and the sunsets are indeed spectacular. The public beach and the residence are also right outside your door and that created some awkwardness and made privacy a challenge.

Private Host vs. Property Management Host

We chose VRBO for its simplicity and reliability. However, after booking, the property manager bombarded us with texts and emails demanding we log into a third-party portal and sign a lengthy lease agreement, get wifi information, look at check in and out details. We made it clear we’d only communicate via the booking platform, but they ignored this. VRBO confirmed we didn’t need to sign, yet the property insisted, even suggesting we drive to their office to sign in person.They required an additional stop to pick up a gate opener, only for us to find the gate broken and unnecessary. The promised secure parking wasn’t provided, and the lot was adjacent to a public beach access.Despite notifying them about these issues, we never heard back. Their poor communication about guest needs contrasted with their pushiness over unnecessary documents.As experienced STR hosts with 5-star ratings, we value our space and our guest experience. This property felt transactional, lacking care or attention.Regarding the listing’s accuracy: the bed was relocated, creating a narrow 12-inch walkway. I immediately stubbed my toe on the bedframe. The space was arranged differently than the photos, with a different table and chairs, and the stove was functional but appeared unsafe. The rug (shown in the photos) was missing.The property was clean. Our first time staying with property management host, and most certainly our last. This was a two-day vacation on Christmas day.

Gull Cottage

Great fall getaway to celebrate our 34th Anniversary. The cottage was delightful and having the private beach area was the cherry on the top. Easy to navigate the island and trips to Savannah were easy!

Great get away

I visited Tybee for the first time with my boyfriend for a quick get away. This place is perfect for two. It was clean and had everything we needed. Restaurant's were all within 10 minute walking distance so we didn’t have to drive at all during our time. The beach area is quiet and we really enjoyed fishing from the beach and caught a variety of fish. I will try to re book this house again for future stays at Tybee.!

Just as listed plus more

We have stayed at a decent amount of VRBO properties, mostly up and down the east coast, Cabo San Lucas, and 5 times on the Hawaiian Islands. Sometimes just the 2 of us, and up to 6. Most all properties have a very usable and a variety of kitchen items. The Gull Cottage property has absolutely everything you could possibly need while staying there. The bed was so comfortable you didn't want to get out of it. The fishing pier was not a problem at all. Town was close, and has everything one would need, plenty of restaurants to choose from, groceries, and plenty of surf shops to take home trinkets or gifts. We highly recommend this property, for 2 people it is the best. We definitely will check availability next time we want some time alone.

We really enjoyed staying at Gull Cottage. Exactly what we needed for our mini vacation. Wish the weather would’ve been nicer, and would like to come back to Tybee when it’s sunny.

Something Special

My husband and I just returned home from spending four days at Gull Cottage on Tybee Island. The cottage itself was very charming and comfortable. A beautiful kitchen has everything you could possibly want or need to prepare your own meals. Stepping out the front door to see your own little private seating area to watch the beautiful sunsets while everyone else is gathering on the fishing pier makes you feel very special. We enjoyed having a cheese plate and wine each evening in the comfy Adirondack chairs provided. Just steps down from that is a beautiful beach on the Back River which was far less crowded than the main beach. Although right outside the gate is the parking for the fishing pier there wasn’t too much noise and everyone was very respectful. I highly recommend if you’re looking for an intimate getaway you choose Gull Cottage.

Gull Cottage is a darling, historic cottage that sits feet from a beautiful, soft white sandy beach. It's located on a part of Tybee Island that is quiet and private yet nearby the downtown. It was truly a slice of heaven to be there for our 35th wedding anniversary. Tybee Vacation Rentals provided excellent communication for our visit. We'll be back!
