The view from a parking lot near Tortilla Flats in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix, AZ.
Outside the smallest museum you’ll ever see in probably the smallest town you’ll ever find. Tortilla Flats is a town with only 6 residents and it sits on AZ Rt 88 maybe 2 miles before the paved road becomes a dirt road. This town has a gift store, a little country store, a restaurant, and a tiny museum and not much else. Most people who stop here are working their way along the Apache Loop Trail, which starts in Apache Junction, AZ. Take Rt 88 northeast all the way to Roosevelt Lake then take Rt 188 southeast to Globe and then west back to Apache Junction or all the way back to Phoenix. It’s a gorgeous drive and despite a large part of it being dirt roads, you don’t need a 4x4 to drive it. Tons of camping and hiking areas all along this route. Not sure what this area looks like after the Woodbury Fire though.
