We just had a standard double room, I was suprised how nice it was for the price.
The hotel itself is lovely, such a beautiful place.
There are a few animals outside to feed, an outdoor bar area. The bar inside is great and reasonably priced. The food is AMAXING
Overall we enjoyed our stay.
It was a family wedding so we had an amazing day.
Only criticism was the breakfast. I had the eggs benidict it was cold, tea was cold my husband and other members of our family had full english they all said it wasent good .
I would normally complain but we'd had such a lovely time i didn't want to spoil anything.

Room 10 - AVOID if Over 5'9".
Do not stay in room 10 if you expect to stand up whilst you shower. My partner had to shower on his knees; he's around 6'1" so not overly tall and I'd say this would be the case for anyone over 5'9". Similarly, his feet hung out the bottom of the bed which significantly impacted upon his sleep.
In addition, the door to reception is next to the room which bangs each time someone goes through. We suggested to the reception staff that it needs to be slow closing and they said they're aware of this due to previous complaints but haven't actioned anything. Why, I don't know.
Finally, we had to use the body wash as hand wash and keep moving it from the shower to the sink which I've never had to do, apparently this is acceptable and the reception staff did not understand why this was an issue.
We were also told that "there's a first for everything" when we explained about the shower issue. I do not believe that this is the first time this issue has been raised because most couples would have the same problem. I understand they are unable to change the shower due to the structure of the room but guests should be told upon booking and have the option to request a different room.
This review would have had a different tone if the customer service had been better when we feedback at checkout but we did not feel it was acknowledged or that anything would be rectified.
Excellent little hotel, friendly and very helpful staff. Great friendly atmosphere
Very cosy bar area - log fire comfy sofas. Good selection at the breakfast buffet.
Comfortable but slightly dated decor in the bedroom. Fab powerful shower and large bath.
Would stay again
Booked a delux room with hot tub for a 1 night stay. The hotel itself is very nice and very busy. What let it down was the lack of maintenance in the room. The hot tub produced a scum on the surface of the water as soon as you turned on the jets, the TV in the luxury bathroom didn't work, the free wifi in the room didn't work and one of the steps down to the outdoor hot tub was loose and very dangerous ( a previous repair had been bodged )
We were given 10% off but I booked a luxury room for a reason.
we went there because we had an invitation to a evening reception to a wedding that was held there that afternoon. The hotel staff were very efficient and very friendly the room was extremely warm and comfortable ,those that were at the wedding said the food was excellent we had roast beef in very large buns with wedges or fries the beef was rather tough but the fries and gravy went down well. The breakfast was delicious and we would not hesitate to pay another visit in the near future.
South Causey Inn is a lovely place I have stayed in quiet a few hotels, with plenty disappointing but this one certainly didn't. All the staff I encountered were very friendly. Better yet after my sister in law took too long to get ready for a wedding and was going to be late the owner volunteered to drop her and 3 others off. Never been to a hotel where they would do that. The rooms are great with old fashioned oak furniture but with a modern en suite. Food was great and there is an amazing open log fire downstairs in the well furnished bar.
Staff very friendly - location great for our visit to Beamish - evening meal and breakfast very good. Only negative was the loud disco music coming from a function.
Sadly this hotel was terribly disappointing. There was no wifi in the room at all. From 8pm to just after midnight the noise from the disco was so loud we might as well have been at the disco. The walls reverberated from the sound. We could not watch the TV or talk, much less sleep. I even did a recording of the noise to prove how incredibly loud it was. When I politely explained how disappointed we were the next day the manager only offered to take our drinks off the bill. For an expensive night away I was really upset and aggrieved that this token gesture was all that was offered. Very poor customer service and I would not return.
Nice Rooms comfy beds great food with a xcellent selection but portions are far to big, lots of guests including my party completely Overfaced, reduce the size of the meals and charge a bit less, other than that a great place to stay with all the sights within easy driving distance,I highly reccomend this Hotel/Pub and will certainly return
