A beautiful, peaceful property located on the Western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in St Mary’s County Maryland just 5 miles North of Pt Lookout State Park. The property is setup with everything needed for you and your friends and family to enjoy all year long. Read prior Guest Reviews on VRBO and Google Map to decide if the property will suit your needs while away from home. It has for 150 families over the past 7 years! “peaceful, cozy, comfortable, everything you need, relaxing, beautiful place to take walks and enjoy a run, we brought our bikes and had so much fun” are all comments we see in Guest Reviews and in the Guestbook. See more reviews photos and information on Google Maps, FB and Instagram pages. Shopping, tourist and historical sites and full-menu and Bar/Restaurants including Courtney’s which features the freshest seafood meals and Pier 450 and SALT are also nearby and feature Chef created menus and gorgeous water views. Parents are encouraged to shop ahead and bring your groceries with you on the first day because once you arrive, you won’t want to leave to spend any time in a grocery store! Beautiful Chesapeake

We are not strangers to the area, my wife having grown up in the area, but each time we stay on the Chesapeake we feel at home. The Hideaway is so nice that you don't want to go back your actual home! It is furnished as if it is a year-round residence, no cheap or mismatched furniture and appliances. We enjoy cooking and the kitchen is has everything you need and it works. The yard and amenities are top notch. If you enjoy bird watching, sit in the back yard and take in the bird activity over Deep Creek and its marshes. There are ample kayaking opportunities. We are looking forward to returning to the Hideaway

Nearly-Perfect Stay

Not my first rental in the Scotland area and was not disappointed! Jocelyn was communicative and kind and the house was lovely, cozy and clean. The house wasn't 100% ready at check-in, but she gave us advance notice and as it happened, we were running behind anyway. The property is well equipped, steps from the beach, has a beautiful backyard for warmer months, and was a great size for two couples and an infant on a winter retreat.Our only complaints were the tap water (very smelly and not pleasant to shower in, much less to drink - definitely bring your own bottled water), the lack of access to the game shed in the winter (the photos did not imply that this was a seasonal offering - maybe our mistake?) and the lack of storage in the kitchen. The owners have tons of food, kitchen equipment, and a huge selection of platters and dishware available, which seems like a perk until you try to fit your groceries somewhere. The small amount of counter space is also chock-full of decor (not unlike the rest of the house), so with the four of us cooking three meals a day we had to keep most of our food in the laundry area. For a longer trip, this would have been a bigger issue, but a small nuisance in comparison to everything else about this lovely home. Overall, the Hideaway clearly takes hospitality seriously, has a good cleaning crew and a spectacular location. We hope to visit again someday!

A True Gem

Wonderful house in an amazing, remote location. Just footsteps to a sublime, quiet beach. Ideal for families looking to get away from the city for a break and to enjoy nature. A Family's Dream Getaway - Very close to DC!

This rental property is a hidden gem! Perfectly situated near a crabbing creek (we caught a lot of blue crabs), it's ideal for family adventures. As parents with small children, we found it to be one of the best rentals we've stayed in. The thoughtful hosts have stocked the place exceptionally well - from coffee to cookware and toiletries. Everything we needed was at our fingertips, making our stay comfortable and stress-free. The backyard is a standout feature, with a fire pit for cozy evenings. Highly recommended for families looking for a well-equipped, convenient, and enjoyable getaway!

Great place

This is a great place to stay. We loved the house (it's really as perfect as it sounds) and the location and the description is accurate. I will note that in our July stay there were a significant amount of jellyfish in the water, which prevented a lot of swimming, but that is par for the course for the Chesapeake I believe. We LOVED kayaking around the backwaters and there was a lot to explore. If you are looking for a quiet place to spend time as a family, this is your place. My only recommendation would be to have some sort of "book" with info about the house and posting wifi codes physically somewhere in the house. Would have made it easier to figure things out upon arrival and having all info in one place would be easier.

A little bit of heaven

The Hideaway at Hayes beach is perfectly situated to enjoy the outdoor offerings. The backyard is lovely and has everything you need to relax and be outside. We saw all sorts of birds, a fox, skinks and little frogs. The kids loved it. What a wonderful, relaxing week.

If you need to heal, find water!

This property was absolutely beautiful. It is located in a very remote area down a dirt road. There are just enough neighbors that you don’t feel alone but you basically have the beach to yourself. The landscaping is gorgeous. There’s a feeling of being outdoors while you are indoors. I could wake bathed in the sunlight coming into this home every single day for the rest of my life. You can see the bay from the front of the house and gorgeous marsh area in the rear of the yard. The hosts thought of everything you could possibly need. There’s everything from a toddler potty seat to doggy poo bags! The game shed was so much fun and is air conditioned. There are more games in the house. The beds were very cozy which was nice after a long drive. Jocelyn was very kind and communicative. I traveled alone with my children to celebrate the memory of my late husband. I was nervous and overwhelmed but this property and Jocelyn made it so stress free and helped me create beautiful memories with my children.

Wonderful start to the summer!

This was our second stay at the Hideaway. We have come to love Hays Beach like a second home. The backyard is beautiful and feels like stepping into a private park. When the sun got a little hot, we spent time hanging out in the sunroom, which also became our bird-watching spot in the evening. We have already started planning for our next trip to this stunning property.

Quiet Get-A-Way Bungalow

A quiet get-away in a delightful bungalow with all the comforts of home, and more! It has a sunroom to enjoy morning coffee and nightly cocktails. The outdoor space, is by far, the best we've encountered so far with a stand-alone game room and lounge area, two fire pits (wood and gas), seating galore to bird watch or enjoy a night of stargazing. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the trimmings like spices, and foil, etc. Such an enjoyable stay and a fine respite from the daily grind. Hoping to be back soon!

Perfect winter mini-break

This was the first trip we have taken our 6 month puppy on. He enjoyed every second of it, and so did we. The house has everything you could ever need, and more! Jocelyn was a great help in providing us with recommendations and really help make the trip something special. We are already looking at dates to return later in the spring or early summer to try and enjoy the beautiful beach in some warmer weather.

Awesome house, tranquil place

The house is perfect for family or a small group of friends. It’s very loving furnished and decorated. The kitchen has everything and beyond. The backyard is a true jewel. It has enough space to have a small sunset party (the vistas are stunning) or have some activities with kids. The sea shore is just a short walk away. We loved every bit of our stay.

This place is magical

Two words to describe the Hideaway at Hays Beach = magical and thoughtful. I love the Chesapeake Bay and have rented many homes on both sides of the Bay over the years. The Hideaway is my favorite. It is cozy and comfortable and very nicely decorated. The seasonal decor was adorable too. The location was incredible. I love a place where I can see the stars in that way that almost makes it seem like you can touch them. The beach was close and amazing and we did hunt some sea glass, which is my absolute favorite thing to do. The backyard is amazing. One of my friends called it an "oasis" and it truly is. But what I loved most about this rental was the thoughtful touches. Anything we could want was there and many things we didn't know we wanted until we saw it. The smore's station, the many throw blankets, the stocked kitchen, the fire pits, the incredibly comfortable beds, the access to Netflix -- just all of it. Simply perfect. And the communication with the owners was also amazing! They gave us great restaurant recommendations and answered any questions we had practically immediately. This was an amazing girls' weekend away to celebrate my birthday and we had the best time. Every single person on the trip wanted to stay longer and we've already decided this will be an annual event. Thank you for putting together such a truly special place.

Hidden gem!

Our recent stay at "The Hideaway" was wonderful. The bay-front view was breathtaking and immediately set the tone. The cottage was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, and had all the amenities we needed. The host, Jocelyn, is incredibly welcoming and gave us great local recommendations. If you're looking for a tranquil getaway with attentive hosts, this is the place. We can't wait to return. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us!

Rio vacation

Our dog, Rio, told us this was the best vacation of his life. It is the perfect beach house and beach for a family and dog who loves the water. We have never been to such a quiet and secluded beach. The house was spotless and we wanted to nothing. The hosts were in regular contact and made sure we had everything we needed. We will be back.

Family Getaway at the Hideaway

My family and I had the most amazing time at the Hideaway at Hayes Beach. This is by far one of the nicest vacation rentals we have ever stayed in. The setting is so picturesque and the private beach community is great. Jocelyn has taken care of every detail inside and outside the home going above and beyond to provide all the amenities to her guests. Jocelyn was so quick to respond to any inquiries we had while there and also made great recommendations prior to our arrival. We can’t wait to come back!

Summer vacation

Property is in a very peaceful and private community. Many great family adventures to be had in the area and beautiful, peaceful home to relax at. Jellyfish kept us out of the water most of the week, but we knew that was potential for the time of year and location. Overall amazing trip, would recommend.

The perfect place to hide away!

We could not have had a better time at the Hideaway at Hays Beach! It can be difficult to coordinate beach trips with little ones, especially with some of us coming from far away, but the Copelands had made sure the house was ready to go with everything we could need. More than that, the house really did feel like a home for our week trip there. The small touches throughout made it easy to arrive, settle in, and relax. Jocelyn was kind and incredibly responsive through our trip, and she helped make our 4th of July celebrations all the more special! We can't wait to visit again.

Hideaway at Hays Beach

Wonderful! Lovely decor, close to the water, fully stocked with kitchen amenities and lots of towels. Plenty of room for the 6 of us. Jocelyn was very communicative and responsive. Loved it!
