Was a long walk to my room with many uneven steps along the boardwalk without any offer of help with my bags. "I loved this unique hotel, it was a tick off the bucket to stay in the rainforest! The staff are so friendly and the food is excellent and great value for money. It is very easy to get to the animal centres and I was still able to access the internet so could order grab taxis. I’d definitely recommend bringing bug spray! 100% would recommend, where else can you stay in the rainforest?!"

"Staff are exceptional - friendly, kind, helpful. There's nothing fancy about the place, but nothing fancy is needed, given the surroundings. I especially enjoyed my balcony with the fan. Breakfast is decent and it's only a 20 min walk to the orangutan rehab centre and 5 mins to the rainforest discovery centre."

"It's a piece of luxury in an interesting place - don't let the exterior building fool you. You can be walking into another world in Sandakan and Hotel Sandakan is a sanctuary amongst it. The staff emulate the local Sabahan hospitality and friendliness, I will stay again next time."

"For the area of Sandakan that this hotel is in this is a pretty good option if you really have to stay here! I would not recommend the area at all. The staff here were very attentive and friendly. The room was adequate but the pillows were horrendous! Just lumpy lumps of hard sponge!
