Monfalcone was a ghost town when I arrived at 17:00 on a Friday. The main town square quickly got filled with local Muslim population - women in burkas and hijabs with loud kids running around and men standing in packs looking over. A few Italian local teens were nearby on the sidelines staring into space or rather into their doomed future.
I was hoping for a small Italian town feel and instead it felt I teleported to Saudi Arabia or Bangladesh. Nothing against the religion, it’s people or language. It’s just not why I booked a hotel in this town for a quick weekend trip to Trieste. Will make sure to do more research next time I travel.
Hotel staff was polite and helpful. Breakfast was simple.
