I had one of the worst hotel experiences ever at Motel 6 in Marysville, CA. I found a good price online through Expedia but decided to stop by in person first to see if I could get a better deal. As soon as I told the man at the front desk I’d just book online, he immediately went on his iPad and blocked the rooms, making them unavailable unless I agreed to pay a higher price directly through him. It was obvious and manipulative.
I ended up booking the room online anyway after I left — sure enough, the cheaper rooms were magically available again. When I came back, I told him I had already paid through Expedia, but he still charged my card a second time. Then he demanded a cash-only deposit, which I didn’t have and couldn’t get at the time. I politely asked him to use my card for the deposit, and he refused, saying he wouldn’t pay the bank’s processing fee.
When I asked for a refund, he said no, told me to “f off,” and walked away. I had no choice but to call the police. Even then, he only gave me half of my money back and continued trying to block Expedia from helping me. Luckily, Expedia stepped in and resolved the issue on their end.
This was an extremely unprofessional and shady experience. I would never recommend staying at this Motel 6. Between the dishonest pricing tactics, double charging, refusal to refund, and flat-out verbal abuse, this place is a nightmare. Spend a little more and stay somewhere where your money — and your dignity — are respected.
