Review: Sonesta Maho Beach Resort – A Mixed Birthday Getaway
Our recent stay at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort was meant to be a relaxing birthday celebration, and while there were moments of joy, the overall experience leaned more toward disappointment than delight.
Day One – A Warm Start
We arrived early and were welcomed with a chilled scented towel and a glass of Prosecco at check-in—a lovely gesture that set the tone for a celebratory stay. Although our room wasn’t ready yet, the front desk advised that housekeeping had been notified, so we decided to explore the resort.
Lunch at The Palms introduced us to Ms. Sharon, the Customer Service Manager, who was a true highlight of our trip. She warmly welcomed us, gave a helpful overview of the property, and even gave us a great food tip: the buffet serves oxtails on Monday afternoons and Thursday nights. Since we were leaving Thursday, we made sure to attend Monday’s lunch, and those oxtails were absolutely delicious—tender, flavorful, and well-prepared.
Room Cleanliness Concerns
Unfortunately, once we got into our room, it became clear that housekeeping had overlooked some key areas. When an item fell under the bathroom sink, we discovered cobwebs and visible dirt, indicating that spot hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Additionally, the area around the table closest to the wall in the room had dirt and debris left over from a previous guest.
