Disappointing Stay After Nearly 3 Weeks – Won’t Be Returning
I stayed at Sonesta Olivar for nearly three weeks due to ongoing work in my apartment nearby. Initially, the hotel felt like good value for the price. However, the experience quickly declined. I was moved to another room during my stay, and on multiple occasions, I had to follow up with staff to request basic amenities that were either missing or not replenished after housekeeping.
Despite clearly being a couple, the nightly sweets left on our pillow were always for one person — a small but telling oversight that reflects poor attention to guest details.
The most frustrating part came at checkout. A staff member insisted I pay an 18% tax, even though my wife is Peruvian and we were staying together. I had only just arrived in Lima a few days prior, and this felt more like an opportunistic policy enforcement rather than a fair or welcoming gesture.
Unfortunately, this experience reinforced the sense that some places in Lima still operate with outdated hospitality standards. I won’t be staying at Sonesta Olivar again.
