Lovely little hotel, great host, very friendly, clean and comfortable room, we chose this hotel because it was Pet Friendly and it didn’t disappoint, the only negative is no evening meals, but you can drive into Lanark 4 miles away where there’s a great choice, there’s also a small supermarket opposite. Apart from that we had a great stay and would definitely use again

Trying to be balanced with my feedback, the room was comfortable and i slept ok. However no ensure shower or bath just basin and toilet. No provision for food in the evening and nearest pub or restaurant was 4 miles away. Breakfast was provided as long as you like your eggs scranbled. Would i use again , no but it was in no way uncomfortable..just very basic.
The Village Inn was perfectly adequate for my needs. It was clean, comfortable and warm. The host, Scott, was very friendly and helpful. I would certainly go back and I would recommend it.

Clean and cheap.
Basic accommodation, but clean and good value for money. Off street parking and quiet enough at night. Pity a breakfast was not available.
Considering location and age of property this little home away from home gets our thumbs up. Somerville's looking to find the family castle ruins can ask the caretaker, an unexpected amazing find! Stop and have a full Scottish delicious breakfast at the little cafe across the street.
Lovely little place, stopped here as was passing through, good parking and a very friendly welcome, room was clean and comfortable, great shower, and even enjoyed a nice beer In the bar, would definitely stop here again
The rooms were small but clean, there was no shower in the room but two large shower rooms across the hallway were clean. The pub and facilities are old which was nice but to stay there you need ear plugs as the noise from the pub is unbearable, too much noise and customers are very noisy outside the pub too, not good if you want a peaceful night.

A nice smal Inn
So we thought it was in Lanark. So there is Lanark, New Lanark and lanark road, where the Inn is... in another smal town. A bit confusing to find but not way to hard. Wifi worked, rooms were good for just one night stay. No breakfast and it wasn't the cheapest hotel so everything lands right in the middle. It is ok, not to shabby not to great.

Disappointed
We arrived at The Village Inn, Carstairs for one night at 1pm which was the time stated on the hotels.com email. The whole place was shut and we couldn't gain entry. We pressed a bell on the right and a man appeared who seemed to doubt that we had a reservation and that we should have come at 2 o'clock. Not a warm welcome. There is a gloomy staircase to the rooms. The en-suite is a toilet and washbasin, the shower across the landing. There are only a few rooms here but they look refurbished with new bedding but there should be pillow protectors on the pillows. The en-suite is modern and clean, The tv is practically on the ceiling. Nowhere to eat locally. We went into Lanark. Not a good start but we were off into Glasgow for the rest of the day and returned at 11pm. It was hard to tell if the pub was, or had been open. A man approached us but didn't introduce himself, we gathered he was something to do with the B&B. As there was no information in the room we asked about breakfast and he pointed out the middle door where we could find it. The next morning we couldn't get entry to breakfast until a lady arrived and let us in. Not much choice here, a few nearly empty boxes of cereal with milk and orange juice. We were offered a cooked breakfast. They didn't send a welcome email. Perhaps they could put a notice on one of the doors as to what to do if the pub is shut, we felt just a bit unwelcome and that set the tone for our stay, sadly.
Disappointed no cold breakfast offered - we had an early start to get to Games so weren't expecting the hot breakfast which was included in the price. A box of cereal would suffice for the kids at least!
