Avoid Avoid Avoid!

I was hosting 5 colleagues in this hotel as part of an extended country-wide business trip. Upon check-in, the front desk staff informed me that given the size of the booking, they would generously upgrade us to better rooms. How wonderful! They chose to upgrade two of my guests and didn't offer me an upgrade at all. Instead, I was placed in a basement room that smelled of mold, had a broken safe, shower door and refrigerator. I was gobsmacked. I returned to the desk and kindly requested that the fridge and safe issues be addressed. They assured me they would handle it while I was out for meetings. They never did. In two days, nothing was repaired and the offer to move me never offered. Absolutely shocking, abysmal service (albeit with a smile!). I will not return, which is disappointing since we will be expanding our business in the region.

Horrible Experience

I have stayed there many times over the years but this time my experience was very bad especially traveling with family. The first room was not what we had reserved. The second room had a broken toilet seat and no bed cover. The third and final room we settled in had a leaking bathtub. My family and I were too tired to move to another room. The staff were nice but at the restaurant it seems as though you only get served if you knew a staff member. Half of the time they were standing around doing nothing. The table cloth and napkins were dirty and half the time we sat on a table without silverware. This was a bad experience and they've lost a customer for life in my children and myself.

So the first night we got there, we were given a room with poorly working air conditioning. The drain for the bathroom sink was not working, so whenever we washed our hands, the water would be stagnant, which like the air conditioning, couldn't be fixed. We had to ask to switch rooms. We also ordered room service, and asked for extra condiments which never came. The second evening, we tried to sit in the bar area with family members, but there were so many mosquitoes, we had to cut that short. We tried the buffet the following morning and the options were extremely limited. However, I will recommended the omelette station, the chef's omelettes were fantastic. We all went double rounds. The manager of the restaurant, affectionately known as Grandpa, was very helpful and pleasant, I would visit the hotel again only for those two reasons. Management of the hotel should ensure that the all rooms are up to par before booking. Huge overhaul needs to occur if this location wants to be at the same level as the Accra location.

Never again

Poor air conditioner all over the hotel all the time, outside temp was more than 100 F. Unclean. 12 of our team got sick after eating in the restaurant. Poor and slow service in the restaurant. The facility is not well kept, unpleasant smell in different locations.

Nice, quiet, clean, very friendly staff

Enjoyed the breakfast a lot outdoors by the pool also. Got bit by some mosquitoes though.

Disappointment with Golden Tulip's deterioration

My wife and I stayed in one room and our son stayed in another room. Our room had only one bathing towel and one hand towel. I called the front desk at 4:30PM on the day we checked in. They told me that there were no more towels and that they are in the dryer. When we came back from our evening event at 10PM they had not delivered the towel. I had to call and complain bitterly to get them to send a towel. The next day after they cleaned the room they once again left only one set of towels. We ran into the cleaners just as they were leaving the room and I demanded a second set of towels. She told me the same story that the towels were in the dryer. After expressing my disappointment she went and retrieved one from another room. This situation with the towels tells me that the hotel is not at international standard. Our son's room didn't have any hot water. By that time we had given up complaining and so he took showers in our room. The carpets in all the rooms are worn out and need to be changed. I stayed at this hotel four years ago and I can say that it has significantly deteriorated when it comes to the rooms. The restaurant is in good conditions and the food is excellent. The front desk attendants are good but it seems to me that they are dealing with organizational deficiencies over which they have no control. This is not the Golden Tulip I know. PLEASE FIX IT!!!

We were given a room on a lower level with a very strong smell of mould, seemed to be coming from the a/c. Carpets in hallways and in room were filthy. WA very happy to leave and would not consider returning

Luxury in Kumasi

Not my first stay at the Golden Tulip. Always a pleasant experience. Except this time I opted for the apartment-type room. Extremely spacious and comfortable. Perfect for several days. The apartments are in a secluded part of the hotel, perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the reception or swimming pool area. The few negative points: the breakfast buffet is not what it used to be (I have been going to Golden Tulip since 2010), the lighting in the room was not adequate (more lamps or higher wattage is needed). Finally if you stay over a weekend, expect the swimming pool to be swarmed by non-hotel residents. The hotel sells access to the pool, to the detriment of its own guests. I had to wait for a lounge chair both Saturday and Sunday. And once seated, it was not a relaxing experience at all!
