A Disappointing Experience for Guests with Food Allergies
We were truly looking forward to our stay at Grecotel LuxMe in Kos, having heard great things about the property. However, our experience was deeply disappointing due to the hotel’s handling of my wife’s severe food allergies.
Before our arrival, we made multiple attempts to inform the hotel that my wife has life-threatening allergies to nuts, celery, and gluten (including coeliac disease). Despite this clear communication, the hotel staff did not seem adequately prepared or trained to handle her dietary needs safely.
On several occasions, we were told to simply eat from the buffet – something that is absolutely unacceptable and dangerous for someone with severe allergies and coeliac disease. Even worse, her food was sometimes taken directly from the buffet, raising serious concerns about cross-contamination. This approach is not only careless but grossly negligent, and it left us feeling extremely unsafe throughout our stay.
As a result, we often avoided meals altogether and felt uncomfortable and anxious during what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation. For a hotel of this caliber, we expected better awareness and accommodation of medical dietary requirements.
We strongly urge Grecotel LuxMe Kos to train their staff properly on how to handle food allergies and coeliac disease. If such dietary restrictions cannot be safely managed, guests should be clearly informed in advance, rather than being placed at risk.
