2-Stars, at best, for serious oversight of basic necessities.
The property itself was nice and clean, staff was friendly at check-in. But shortly after arrival we noticed our room had no soap, so I went to the front desk requesting it (even prompted by the sign in the room stating that if we needed anything to inquire with staff). At the desk I was told there was no soap (NO SOAP) in the entire hotel… I got a rather dismissive apology and explanation about how there was an issue with their vendor and they hadn’t had soap for a while. After 8-9 hours on the road, the first thing we wanted was a hot shower to clean off “the road”, but we couldn’t get soap (the staff recommended I try the gas station down the street, it was after 11pm, by the way).
Soap is the bare minimum for a hotel, in my opinion. Like the absolute last thing that should be gone (maybe after clean sheets). Especially if they had known for “quite a while”, I think they even said over a week, management should have absolutely sourced soap elsewhere… super, super basic.
I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels in my life, possibly even thousands, and in developing countries like Haiti after it was devastated by a huge earthquake & tsunami, but I have never not been given soap. Such a ridiculous let down, and such an easy issue to address by the hotel staff.
