Tip: Don’t book the Super Saver room — it wasn’t good. Pay a little extra for a regular room. My first room had a leaking AC and no refrigerator, but Ms. Marilyn, the manager, was so kind and quickly moved me to a better room and made sure I was comfortable.
A taxi from the airport is about $40 — no need to pre-book. If you like to explore, it’s very easy to catch the local bus right outside Jolly Beach Resort. You can take #20 to St. John’s or #22 to Darkwood Beach ($3). Locals are very friendly and helpful. From Darkwood Beach, you can also catch a bus for $1 to OJ’s Restaurant or Turner’s Beach Bar — both great spots!
The beach at the resort is beautiful, with a great view. There’s a small vendor selling items, and chairs are always available, which was a plus.
Sheer Rocks Restaurant (off property) is a must — great food, beautiful views, and access to Big Fryes Beach.
At the resort, the food was better than expected. The pool is great, the rum punch is delicious, and they have a nice coffee station. Plus, you can pick fresh mangos right from the trees on the property.
There are a lot of mosquitoes — definitely bring spray!
You can walk to the supermarket, harbor and Al Porto restaurant (15 min walk) If dining at the resort, wake up early to sign up for the à la carte dinner or eat at the buffet.
Overall, my stay was great. I like to explore when I travel, and I’m glad I picked this resort “it fit my more adventurous style.
