Brekka - Stunning Country & Ocean View Location, Yet Close To Reykjavik

At lodge Brekka you sure have a warm welcome, independent of weather. You'll feel comfortable in the nice open space of the house and the big terrace around, enjoying the privacy of this pristine site. The inviting geothermal tub is discretely placed in the bushes of the birch midst in the pure nature. The location is superb with a great view with ever changing shades of light on the Hvalfjord-bay and the Atlantic Ocean, and the mountain group Sulur in the other direction. A little creek makes the border of the property as it flows by in the gully. The lodge Brekka (means slope) is a beautiful house, finished in 2013. It is sitting nicely in the hillside, hence the name. For 6 people you have a lot of space, additionally there is a double sleeping couch in the open space upstairs, ideal for kids. That way Brekka can accommodate 8 people on request. Please notice, if booked for more than 6 guests a surcharge pr. person, will apply.
Brekka is a gorgeous place to stay, a real retreat from Reykjavik, "Fairly close but far enough". The house is approximately 45 minutes drive from Reykjavík and only about 1,5 hours from the KEF airport. Brekka has a free glass fibre connection for Internet and TV.
Are you heading North, West, South or East? We also run the quality cottages "Hamragil" by the town Akureyri up North (Booking Numbrer 3925011), "Tvera" at the south coast of the Westfjords (4084081), "Stekkar" south of the great sights Geysir and Gullfoss (2903253) and Borgarbrekka 35 km east of town Höfn, in South East Iceland (9408171).

What a beautiful place! Iceland is a beautiful country, but Brekka is in the most beautiful location. The hosts were helpful. The place was clean. It was easy to drive to Reykjavik and other places. The views were amazing.

Perfect as a base to come home to absolutely everything was A1. Very pleased, the property is nicer than the listing leads you to believe.I did feel that the hot tub would have been better placed up on the balcony (especially for when it snows) giving better views from tub and less risk of slipping at night.

Great Spot

Wonderful location just 45 minutes from Reykjavic. It is certainly out in the countryside, but it was nice and quiet. 20 mins to a grocery store and the kitchen was equipped enough for our breakfasts we made at home before heading out for the day. Very clean, and the hot tub was great. No issues whatsoever.

3 adults, used as a base for hiking and exploring south and central Iceland including Snaefellsness, Landmannalaugar (that was a long drive though), and Vestmannaeyjar. It was a very nice and clean house. I would stay there again.

Beautiful Brekka

This beautiful cottage was the perfect place for our family. The views were amazing and the hot tub was a wonderful end of our busy days. This location is very convenient to travel around the west side of the island

Brekka at Christmas

Our family stayed at Brekka for the holiday season. The host’s directions were spot on and we found the house no trouble at night,in the snow, and never having been to Iceland before. The house was warm and clean on arrival & fully stocked with all utensils and cooking pots and pans, etc we needed for our stay. The three bedrooms and upstairs loft all got used as sleeping quarters; everyone was comfortable and the blankets sheets and pillows were all clean and inviting for a good night’s sleep. We drove offsite most of the time to either go visiting or hiking (Glymur is nearby as is Hvammsvik hot springs - both worthy trips), but each afternoon we were happy to come back and prepare dinner and relax in the hot tub. The hot tub is amazing (once you get the hang of operating it!). I did drain it once by accident, but then figured it out easily and we were back in business. We loved our stay - particularly getting a surprise Christmas tree from our host - and decorating it with a box of Christmas decorations that were at the house. Jon - the host - was always accessible and answered our every question promptly and with obvious pride for the house. His attentiveness and kindness made our stay just that much more enjoyable because he made us confident in where we were staying, notwithstanding some fairly heavy Icelandic winter weather. Highly recommended, clean, neat, enjoyable, wonderful views and a wonderful host. Jon O’Brien, Boston, USA

Fabulous property near the fjord!

We absolutely loved staying here! The views were breathtaking. The location allowed for a quiet, peaceful stay with the ability to see the northern lights without light pollution, and was not far from many sites and attractions. The property was clean and had everything we needed to be comfortable and enjoy our time there. We would definitely recommend this property to others and would love to stay here again!

Stunning and Pristine Home with Hot Tub and Breathtaking Views

Die Brekka Lodge ist wunderschön gelegen und hat einen herrlichen Ausblick über den Fjord. Auch die Unterkunft selbst ist sehr gemütlich und die Einrichtung bietet alles, was man für einen gelungenen Urlaub braucht. Wir haben hier den Jahreswechsel verbracht und hatten das Glück, an zwei Abenden Polarlichter sehen zu können - perfekt. Auch für Ausflüge ist die Lage ideal. Der Vermieter Jon Baldur war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Vor der Reise haben wir zur Einstimmung jede Menge Informationen bekommen und waren daher gut vorbereitet. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

Jon is very helpful, always available and gives very good advice. The comfortable house offers breathtaking views of the mountains, fjord and ocean. The tub experience at night and in the snow is a real discovery. An excellent family stay.

Beautiful property, the owner is super kind and responsive. The view of the northern lights from the property has been stunning, the location is fabulous. We enjoyed out stay and have absolutely nothing bad to say. We will come back next time we wisit Iceland without a doubt!

Simply Amazing

My wife and I stayed at Brekka during early-mid September and had an amazing time exploring many things Iceland has to offer. The cabin is in a fantastic location with terrific views. We saw the northern lights three nights in a row! The lodge was very comfortable and very well stocked. Jon left great instructions and food recommendations. Hotel Glymur dinner is a must! Amazing and Restorative Place

Brekka lodge is a perfect place to stay if you're looking for some rest and relaxation. The lodges in this area all have quite a bit of space and privacy to them. The area it is in is a beautiful place, with convenient proximity to various places to explore in Iceland. Experienced hikers can go to Glymur waterfall at the eastern end of Hvalfjordur. Nearby Hvammvik springs on the south side of the bay gives you a place to swim in the ocean, and then warm up in a thermal pool. Reykjavik is less than an hour away by car, and to the north and west, you have the beautiful Snaefellsnes and other historic places, such as Reykholt. The geothermal tub was very relaxing, and I believe it helped me correct a skin condition on my hand (dermatitis / eczema); after the trip my hand has never looked this good in over 6 years. I would definitely come back to Iceland and stay at another Nordic Lodge in the future!

Love this Home Base!

We were looking for a place that is in the middle of the area we wanted to be. From this place we could go North, South, up to the peninsula, the Gullfoss Waterfall, or to the airport all within a daytrip. What a great treasure we found in Brekka! It was the perfect location, the view was amazing, and it was a great place to relax after our day out.The kitchen had everything we needed for our dinners, and it was wonderful to do small loads of laundry while we were there. Brekka was the perfect place for us!
