Step outside to an enclosed private garden where you can enjoy breakfast outdoors or linger over supper. The owners’ nearby smallholding sometimes lets guests meet friendly donkeys, ponies, goats, chickens and alpacas. Spring Meadow Sheperds Hut is surrounded by woodland full of deer, red squirrels and brown hares. Not far is Ennerdale Water, Loweswater and Crummock Water, renowned for their superb walking routes, cycling, fishing and wildlife watching, while the Cumbrian coast, local shops, pubs and historic harbour towns such as Whitehaven and Cockermouth offer plenty more to explore.
