Grassland above Linen Dale
Grassland above Linen Dale
Linen Dale An unusual name for a dale. This is a short shallow dry valley at the head of Middleton Dale. All the water drains in underground watercourses in this limestone area.
Coniferous woodland on Bretton Moor These trees form a shelter barrier around a field sized area of grassland which presumably gives shelter for sheep in winter.
Rhododendrons on Bretton Moor The wild rhododendron is a sign of an acid soil associated with the millstone grit of the northern Dark Peak area. Less than 200 metres to the south is Eyam Edge where the millstone grit falls away to the limestone White Peak area.
