Our accommodations at the Folly Beach Cottage were overall adequate, however a few things were not ideal during our stay. Upon check in at the property, the entry code did not work. After calling and messaging the host several times, we finally got a response approximately 3 hours later. Apparently the management company programmed the wrong code. We were given a new code to use, but the response time to our calls/messages should have been faster, considering it was the designated check-in time. The property had a very stale, mildewy smell that lasted most of our stay, despite opening the windows to air-out the rooms. The upstairs bedroom suite never got free of the mildew smell. All of our clothes and suitcases from the vacation were infused with the smell, even after we got home. Air fresheners or deodorizers might help. It took 3 days to figure out how to turn the tv on... very complicated. The kitchen had a hodgepodge of food in the cabinets. There was no corkscrew in the kitchen. The sink in the upstairs bathroom was very slow to drain. The gas grill was very dirty and crusty grill utensils hung from a hook nearby. The beach view was a peek from the upstairs bedroom. Beach access was literally across the street, the location was ideal. We could walk to town for breakfast, dinner, and shopping. The neighborhood is lovely and very safe. Heavy rain left huge puddles underneath and behind the house. The deck is great for groups and we had the necessities for a good trip.
