"My husband and I stayed at the Alex for 4 days on a recent trip to Edinburgh. We’re from Canada and it was our first visit to Scotland so we were very excited to stay right in the thick of things. The hotel was in the perfect location, we could see the castle and were only a couple of minutes away from Victoria Street. The Apex pool and sauna were a fun little edition as well! I highly recommend."

"Our room was a bit odd. Immediately after opening the door there was a long corridor (5+ metres) before you got to the room proper. The only light switches (including for the bathroom) were just inside the door, meaning you had to track back and forth down this corridor every time you wanted to switch the light on or off in the bathroom. Worse still, the lights are on a timer linked to a motion sensor, but the motion sensor is just inside the door so every time it times out the room lights go off and you have to run down the corridor just to reactivate the motion sensor. Other than that strange design, the rooms were OK but fairly spartan. Lots of space, but no additional furniture beyond the bed and a single chair. For what we paid, it felt very poor value."

"Lovely room and very friendly staff. Bar was completely lacking in atmosphere with the only music from an Alexa on the bar?! Having taken a pre-auth for £0.01 (odd) I then had a demand to visit reception to pay my £111 tab the night before checkout. Not very impressive."

"I had an excellent stay at this hotel. I loved that it was a 1 minute walk from Waverley station and within a 15-20 minute walk to everything else in Edinburgh. My room was very clean and comfortable and I appreciated the extra touches such as complimentary snacks with tea and coffee on my room and slippers. I would happily stay here again on future trips"
