We had a great stay at Ibis Berlin Mitte. We booked a room with two twin beds. Nothing fancy but the price was excellent. The room was small compared to Western sizing but typical for Europe. The location is one of its strongest points. It is centrally located with easy access to trams and trains and just a short ride from the airport. Alexanderplatz is right down the street or one tram stop away. Grocery stores, snacks, and restaurants are all within easy walking distance.
That said, the immediate neighborhood around the hotel wasn’t very exciting. Seemed to be mostly residential and commercial. You could seek and find things but usually 10-15 minutes walk. Most of the energy and things to do are closer to Alexanderplatz so if you want to be in the thick of bars and noise, this isn't the place for you.
Besides the location, the second-best thing was how quiet the hotel was. We barely heard any noise from neighboring rooms. The only sound we noticed, and this is not the hotel’s fault, was other guests letting their doors swing shut, which can be loud in any hotel before reserving. Maybe other rooms are different.
We didn’t try the breakfast, so I can’t speak to that, but the staff were super friendly and helpful.
The only three negatives: 1. the air conditioning hadn’t been turned on yet, so our room was uncomfortably hot for the first couple days. Apparently, the building switches between heating or air conditioning for the entire building depending on the season. 2. the
