"Every year when I visit Portland, I think I should spend more to stay at a more modern hotel, but I end up back at Eastside Lodge and am not disappointed. Yes, there is an aspect of "you get what you pay for," but despite being older, my room was once again clean and comfortable.
It is hard to beat the rate, location, and free parking if you're just looking for a no frills spot to lay your head. Sometimes parking can fill up on a busy weekend, but this time I had no problems getting a spot and leaving my car. When I checked into my room, it was a bit musty since the A/C was turned off. Once I gave it time to cool off, the room felt great. Furniture, including the bed, are older, but I got a good night's sleep.
The bathroom and shower are pretty small, but they were in good enough shape and clean.
My favorite part is the location on Burnside. It's very walkable and there are a lot of restaurants within walking distance. Pro tip: get dinner from the Thai food cart across the street in the parking lot of the club. It's fantastic.
If I had a significant other with me, I would find something nicer. But when it's just me in Portland, Eastside Lodge gets the job done."
