Wonderful city for history and culture. UNESCO site, Borobudur & Prambanan temples are a must. Vredeburg Museum is also wonderful. Local people are very friendly and good local food and shops.

We loved the gangs (alleys) in this part of town. Do be a little careful though of which alleys you go through at night. We were very surprised to find that the prostitutes were just around the corner in an alley that was fine in daytime.
