The White House is a large, spectacular, luxury, recently-completed, architect-designed, waterfront villa in one of the most tranquil areas of Antigua. It sits on a peninsula in the Northeast of the island close to Long Bay, which has a beautiful white-sand beach protected by coral reefs with excellent snorkelling. The small village of Willikies is nearby. This area benefits from the Northeast Trade winds which keep the mosquitoes away and provide a cooling breeze.
The entrance to The White House is through a remote controlled gate with the drive leading to the front door and an integral garage which keeps the car cool in even the hottest weather. Terraces have been built on all sides of the villa so that sun or shade is always available. The tropical gardens extend to the sea where the property benefits from its own private dock, giving access to and from the water and a base for any keen fishermen, sailors or water-sports enthusiasts.
The dining room opens to the sea on two sides and links directly to the large airy living room with large opening glass doors at each end. In front of both is a beautiful terrace overlooking one of the most important protected marine life areas in Antigua and providing magnificent views of sunsets over the distant mountains. Outside tables and chairs allow meals to be taken here if preferred. A fan-shaped, infinity-edged swimming pool some forty feet across, lies below and in front of this terrace with its own extensive suntrap terrace, changing room/bathroom and pool shower.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a large GE Profile fridge freezer, granite work surfaces, dishwasher, oven, microwave and a gas hob. The utility has a large washing machine and a separate tumble dryer. The dining and living rooms, kitchen and utility all have ceiling fans.
Each of the three double bedrooms has individual air-conditioning and ceiling fan, its own sumptuously fitted bathroom and its own private terrace with magnificent sea views and cooling sea breezes. One bedroom has a super king size bed and two have twin single beds. All have large built in wardrobes with ample shelf and hanging space.
The study at the end of the living room terrace provides extensive desk space for those who may need it. Internet is available throughout the whole property, by both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections but you need to bring your own laptops, ipads etc. A local mobile telephone with a pay as you go SIM card is supplied; credit can be added at many local shops and service stations. Household service is provided on Tuesday and Thursday morning each week.
All rooms and terraces have travertine-stone floors imported from Europe, red-cedar doors and shutters with mosquito screens.
Turtles, pelicans, stingrays and flying fish can be seen from the house with frigate birds, egrets and even ospreys soaring overhead. Humming birds are frequent visitors to the tropical gardens, with palms and bourgainvilleas, which extend on all sides.
Two of the most important quality hotels on Antigua are at Long Bay and some of the top tourist attractions are in this part of the island, including Paddles, Stingray City, Betty's Hope Sugar Mill, Devil's Bridge and Great Bird island. The White House is some 20 minutes by car from Nelson's Dockyard, English Harbour, Falmouth Harbour, the airport and the capital city of St John's. Antigua is reputed to have 364 beaches, many of them world renown, so you can choose a different one every day if you wish to leave the quiet peace of The White House and its facilities.
