Brook Lane. This section of Brook Lane is still lined by hedges and has large ditches on both sides. For an explanation of the significance of this ancient lane see 1314130
Brook Lane This lane marks the border between Mickfield and Wetheringsett Cum-Brockford. It was also the border between the old Hartismere Hundred (to the North) and Bosmere Hundred (to the South). Historian Norman Scarfe (in his book "The Suffolk Landscape) considers that the lane dates back at least to the 10th Century and may be as old as the 7th Century. In places the ancient ditches are still visible. This part of the lane was laid with concrete as part of the construction of Mendlesham Airfield in the 2nd World War. The old airfield lies to the North of the lane.
