Historic Home w/glass house, mtn views, swim pond, near skiing, weekly discounts

Historic circa 1800 country farmhouse surrounded by nature on 155 private acres yet near to ski areas (see below) w/large swimming pond and mountain views, with attached glass house for dining, star gazing and relaxing views of mountains and gardens. Now restored, the house was formerly a stop along the old stage coach route and a working farm, creamery and cheese factory (see 'Sherman House' at Clarendon Historical Society website https://www.clarendonvthistory.org/HSWF_DisplayItem?ID=1467&XS=A)

Spectacular views of the Vermont Taconic mountains to the west, Dorset Peak visible 18 miles to the South, and down the road the Green mountains and Killington/Pico Peaks visible to the East. Easy access to Vt. Route 7 about six minutes away. Historic town of Clarendon Springs ~1/4 mile downhill from the house, highlight Clarendon House (c. 1835, National Register of Historic Places) -- see photo of painting by James Hope.

Please note that we are a non-smoking and fur free house (no pets) in order to protect the structure and furnishings, which include antiques, as well as to accommodate the smoke/fur free health needs of the owners and guests. Please also note that the house is not appropriate for unchaperoned college age groups, based on prior experiences. Also, a $50/person/night guest fee applies to groups larger than four.

Thank you once again for considering spending your valuable vacation time at this special house and property!

Amenities include remodeled bathrooms (2 full) and living/wood stove room, with connected glass house with fireplace. Kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, and attached laundry room with washing machine and dryer. Also, cable TV, high speed internet service, and DVD player. Pond for swimming/kayaking, large lawn and slate patio overlooking 180 degree mountain views. Mountain terrain and property, as well as nearby Appalachian Trail ideal for hiking/biking/cross country skiing.

This home and its location offers something for everyone, with easy access to major ski areas (30 mins. to Killington and Okemo, 45 mins. to Stratton, Bromley), towns (Rutland/Manchester/Dorset), museums, marble quarries, horse back riding, and much more or simply relax at the house and enjoy the quiet by reading/dining on the patio in summer or hanging out around the wood burning stove in winter.

Beautifully Decorated in a Beautiful Environment
This was a perfect property for us. The location with great views was matched by the character and quality of the inside furniture and attention to design details. It also had a very well appointed kitchen, better quality than in the usual rental. All in all, a place to soothe the nerves.

Perfect for us!
The house was great for us - we used all the different spaces and particularly enjoyed eating in the glass room with the doors open and the evening breeze coming through. I appreciated that the kitchen had everything we needed, that the spaces were all appealing & comfortable, and that Alex was extremely responsive to my questions. We were a party of six adults and never felt cramped. Highly recommended!

Great quiet getaway
This is a great place to enjoy a real getaway. Plenty of things to do in nearby towns. But a wonderfully quiet retreat with great views. I went for long runs each morning and in 3 days of running I managed to see only one car pass by.

Beautiful historic farmhouse
This was just what we needed for a quiet weekend visit to Rutland. The photos online don't do it justice, for the views from the hilltop are wonderful, especially at sunset and sunrise. We enjoyed cozy fires each night, and there was plenty of room for our family to spread out and have privacy when we needed it.
