We had a wonderful stay, very vibrant neighborhood. Despite the gov shutdown we had lots to do. We visited for a wk and did plenty. The neighborhood is walkable. We walked to several restaurants, ice cream, and coffe shoppes. We also were only abt an 10 min walk to Abraham Lincoln Cottage, beautiful grounds.We were an hr and half away from an entrance to shenandoah national park (but Rock park creek which is literally around the corner from the property is also beautiful.We ventured out to Harpers Ferry WV (storybook town with historic significance of the civil war) We were able to hike on the Appalachian trail right from the town. The town also happens to be where the Potomac and shenandoah river converge.We then traveled to Gettysburg in PA also about 1hr and 15mins away. Even tho we could not enter any of the government buildings or many of the museums, we were able to go anytime on the grounds. We decided to go at night, the traffic was much less and the memorials at night are beautiful We left feeling very fulfilled despite the circumstances. The rental is also reasonably priced and communication was good. Please keep in mind the owners live up stairs so you will hear them occasionally. Also the neighbors dog barks quite a bit throughout the day but we weren't bothered by it much at all.
