About this property
Volcano Forest House next to Volcano National Park
Lovely new 2 level island style home, beautifully furnished, built in the middle of the only native tropical rain forest in the country. Dr Stephen Tarek a recently retired Chiropractor lives quietly upstairs in a separate unit and is available for all immediate needs. As all homes in the Volcano area are somewhat remote, this is also a good security measure. Ground level of home has 2 private bedrooms with new queen beds and luxurious duvet comforters and bedding. Living room has a very comfortable sofa bed full size. There is also an Aero full size bed with all bedding. I am adding an extra bathroom and bedroom off to a small area beyond the back of the home. There will never be work on this when guests are booked. Only between bookings.
One large bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and shower. All wood floors and ceiling fans with gas fireplace and beautiful full chefs kitchen with all new Samsung appliances and washer/dryer. Large lotus pond and 2 private covered patios (lanai) with seating. Long desk looking over pond to comfortably be on laptop. Closest home is 400 ft away through the forest, so no next door barking dogs or roosters. Extremely quiet and peaceful, unique and a fully Hawaiian experience. Perfect for those who want to explore and hike in an upper elevation tropical rain forest. Not really the place for loud late night drinking parties. Children are welcome. But. Please note that there is a fish pond with no fence around it. The home is furnished more on the high end with real wood floors and all white duvet covers, linens and towels. Children and teen agers bring a wonderful energy to any home and so far have been great to have here. The home is not exactly "kid friendly" with antiques and artworks that can be pulled down if the child is over active. If this is the case there are many rentals that are in the area that would be a better fit for you if your children are super active.
"NOT TO MISS" Big Island Attractions: Volcano National Park hikes and Big Island hikes in general (host can suggest best as there are many); Boiling pots waterfalls; Akaka Falls; City of Refuge in Kona; Hilo town, Hilo Saturday open market, Liliokalani Japanese Gardens/Coconut Island; Volcano open Sunday market; Beautiful drive on highway 250 from Waimea to Hawi and then on to Pololu Valley (great view place and/or hike down to beach/valley) Beach may not be safe for swimming; Honokaa town and Waipio Valley. Beautiful drive from Pahoa to ocean in puna is approx. 2 miles out of Pahoa off highway 130 to 137 called Kama'ili rd. / Opihikau rd. (two names), when at ocean turn right to Kahena beach, most beautiful black sand beach on big island. Entire coast here is a magnificent drive and around 20 min from south to north end without stopping; Beautiful drive between Akaka Falls and Hilo has two names: Scenic Route and Old Mamalahoa hwy. The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is on this road and can be used to GPS the drive. There is a hiking trail next to the garden that goes to the ocean; Beautiful drive from Volcano to Kau desert trail. This trail is usually dry when it is raining in Volcano area. There are Hawaiian warrior footprints in the lava here; Kahena black sand beach (clothing optional and busy on Sundays when there may be 6 konga drums and dancing on beach); Two unique and beautiful swim areas near Hilo are Richardson's Ocean Park (small black sand beach here, be sure to walk past the lifeguard stand, and Carlsmiths beach park are two beautiful and unique swimming/snorkeling spots near Hilo with turtles: Hapuna Beach is a wonderful long white sand beach with crystal clear water and sometimes great bodysurfing. It is usually sunny and dry (best early or after 4pm and on weekdays for less people). The City of Refuge (Pu'uhonua O Honaunau) and Kelalakekua Bay are not to miss and are in the most beautiful area of Kona. So many guests plan with online information that is outdated or not accurate or maybe posted by another tourist who was only here for 2 days. This causes many to miss the best parts of the islands and/or waste their valuable time.
Please note that the upstairs of the home is a Private area. Also, the best hiking and walks are at the Volcano Park but some guests walk in the neighborhood. Please don't walk to the right beyond the home as it is a private road.
Please Note: Property daily rate is for one or two guests. There is s $30 charge for each guest over two for each night.
Owner is happy to give recent information on the Volcano National Park, hikes, waterfalls, stargazing, beaches, restaurants/shopping. Unless a short answer it is usually better to call owner ( Steve ) to discuss your plans. 8087213418 It is hard to make suggestions without asking questions of the guests itinerary and this could cause the owner to text and type books. Talking is much easier and faster.

Our stay was both wonderful and exceptional. Our host, Steve, could not have been more gracious. He was wonderful in communicating prior to our arrival and gave us a warm welcome and detailed instructions on the home and guidance on exploring the area. His home is gorgeous and like a zen retreat in the middle of a quiet forest. There were numerous thoughtful and lovely touches to the home.I hope to return.
Amazing spot. Perfect if you are looking to get away for some peace and quiet while being close to Volcano National Park. Place was spotless, well kept. All we could ask for! Would return!
What a special place! Well designed and constructed accommodation with quality products including building materials, appliances, lighting. Thoughtful touches like fresh flowers, bath robes and house slippers. Very comfortable furniture. Very clean; well stocked. On-site host welcoming, provided all needed with efficient and friendly communication. It was a refreshing, calming and good energy stay!
Outstanding stay! Listing is fully accurate, very quiet/relaxing location after a day of adventure at the park/beaches, easy & clear directions, and a perfect host! We look forward to our next visit!
Our stay for visiting the Volcano National park was absolutely perfect.
The house was super clean stocked with everything we needed. Wonderful sleeps and super cozy fireplace
Would totally stay here again if visiting the Volcano
We had a great stay here, house is very clean and we love the proximity to volcano, so we can come back to take a break during the day from hiking. Host is wonderful and helped with suggestions for our trip on the island. Highly recommend!
Very beautiful home in the heart of volcano with great proximity to the national park. It was private, cozy and quiet. Great for a peaceful getaway. Would absolutely stay here again.
OUTSTANDING PROPERTY! My wife and I stayed here during our visit to the Big Island. We were greeted in advance by the host, Steve, and he made sure the directions to his place were up to date and accurate. The property is immaculate, with very clean appliances, spotless bathroom, and crisp, brilliant white linens. The parking was convenient and mere steps from the entry, making luggage haul seamless and pain free! The beds were comfy and the perfect balance of soft and supportive. Steve took the time to explain the property basics when we arrived, showed us some secret spots that were hidden gems (literally!), and was incredibly responsive and eager to get us the best possible information. The property is literally down the road from Volcano National Park, which made our stay even better! About 30 minutes to a black sand beach, 90 minutes to the green sand beach, and very quiet. There was an assortment of fresh fruit available, directly from the trees on the property and from the big island! I cannot overstate how much fun this stay was. Steve, you made our trip to the big island 1000 times better than we expected it to be! This property is WORTH IT!
Forest House is the absolute perfect place to stay in Volcano. The house and grounds are divine. Hosts are friendly and helpful. Location is in a very quiet spot just a few short minutes to the park. We were so thankful to have chosen this bit of heaven for our stay!
Steve is such an awesome host and gives incredible recommendations about things to do around the island. Volcanoes National Park entrance is really close by so we were able to go daily. The house was super comfortable and the kitchen (with gas cooktop) made it so easy to come home after hiking and sightseeing to cook a simple meal for dinner. Highly recommend this peaceful place. Thanks Steve!
This a beautiful, very clean apartment on the ground floor. The owner lives upstairs. The house is surrounded by beautiful, lush, green forest/garden. Very peaceful, we saw amazing large birds foraging on the edge of the forest about 20 yards from our patio doors. The apartment is very well supplied with all equipment needed in the kitchen, including a very nice rice cooker, beautiful pots, and dishes. Unusually, the apartment even had some basic supplies, like some spices, some oatmeal, tea, sunscreen, and even basic over the counter medicines and cream for sunburn. This is truly unusual and very helpful. I was greatful for that. The owner is very pleasant and responsive to any questions, without being intrusive - he is there if you contact him, and you don't see him if you don't wish to.
This is an absolutely beautiful property, inside and out. Very clean. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back. Location is great for touring the Volcano and the east side of the Island. Host is terrific.
This property was just lovely! Quiet and beautiful and very conveniently located for all the things we wanted to do. The house had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable. The host was attentive and accessible but not intrusive. I hope we can return some day - I would definitely stay here again!
We only stayed a couple nights anyway perfectly comfortable. Steve did a great job of telling us about the local area and what to do and what to watch for and he was a great source of knowledge
This unit was probably the nicest rental I have ever stayed at . The property has a peaceful, zen atmosphere. The unit was immaculate, and was thoughtfully designed and appointed. The location , just 10 minutes from the national park, was very convenient. I hope to visit again soon.
Steve's home was very peaceful and a great base for exploring volcanoes national park (less than a 10 min drive away; you need a car to explore the area just fyi). House fully stocked and tastefully decorated. Limited dining and grocery shopping nearby though so just plan ahead if staying longer than a night or two. Very safe and secure!
Our stay at the Volcano Forest House was simply the best! The host did a fantastic job at communicating how to get there and what to expect. The space was clean, inviting and exactly what we were hoping for. Walking out in the mornings to sit and listen to the birds with my morning coffee was divine. The property is gorgeous and if you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the frogs like we did! Definitely plan to return if I am in Volcano again. Thank you Steve!
This property is amazing, located right outside Volcano NP. IT was very well represented on VRBO by the owner and clean. We enjoyed that it was outside of Hilo but not too far away. This made for very peaceful evenings that were full of stars. The owner, Stephen, was extremely friendly, helpful and full of ideas on local spots. His rental was clean and nicely appointed. You can fully cook meals here if you like. Would most definitely stay again and also not hesitate to suggest to friends and family. 5 Stars.
We had an amazing stay in the rainforest. The rental itself is extremely clean and well furnished. We were also greeted with many fresh flower arrangements and fresh local fruits, which was a very nice touch. The bedrooms and living space are very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The grounds of the property are stunning. Many interesting bird sounds to enjoy and at night the sounds of the coqui frogs abound. We chose this rental because of the convenience to the national park. It is less than a 10 min drive from the entrance, which made it very easy to fully explore the park. Steve is a very welcoming host, with many excellent recommendations for daily activities.
Did you ever walk into a rental and know that you are a special guest and not just another renter? You will feel this away here. Every detail inside and out has been thought of and organized. The kitchen is ideal (plenty of items to get started, condiments and spices incl coffee), the bedding was heavenly and the outside areas so relaxing, every inch was squeaky clean too.Steve was beyond a five star host and was so helpful for off the path island info and volcano watching.tips.. We were lucky enough to be there for Kilauea’s episode 16 and drove to the park in 15 minutes to catch the eruption. So close here for easy access to what could be a once in a lifetime viewing event.. spectacular! This was an unforgettable stay here at Volcano Forest House next to Volcanoes National Park. We are still in awe!
Great spot in a peaceful and quiet location, close to the park entrance. Steve was a very communicative host who clearly has pride in the space he provides, as it's well stocked, beautifully decorated and cozy. Steve was a great host and helpful with ideas and tips for our stay.
