Kamaka Cabin -A rainforest retreat near Natl. Park

Tucked away on 3 quiet acres of native rainforest, this peaceful Big Island vacation rental is just 2 miles from Volcanoes National Park—the perfect cabin retreat to unwind with family and friends.

Purposefully built from cedar boards and beams, this home is uniquely suited to naturally weather the rainforest’s moisture and environment, while enhancing its connection to the surrounding forest.

The moment you step inside, soaring ceilings with tongue-and-groove cedar draw your eye toward a massive wall of windows framing an immersive view of the ‘Ōhiʻa forest (a native Hawaiian tree) beyond.

The open-concept living room—furnished with a cozy couch, chairs, and blankets—is ideal for curling up with a book in the misty quiet of the rainforest. It flows into a rustic yet highly functional kitchen equipped with all the amenities you need to prep, cook, and entertain.

Head upstairs to enjoy an even more immersive forest view through the windows. This level also features a smart TV and couch for movie nights, a daybed perfect for afternoon naps or extra guests, and a full bathroom with a shower.

Back on the main floor, three bedrooms are located down the hallway. The master bedroom includes a comfy king-size bed and an en suite bathroom with a shower. The other two bedrooms—one with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds—share a bathroom with a tub/shower combo.

You’ll have complete access to the cabin, which includes an open-concept kitchen and living room, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large lanai (patio), and an upstairs open loft with a couch, flatscreen TV, and daybed.

Guests will have the pictured cabin space to themselves. Our on-site hosts live in a completely separate unit on the bottom floor of the cabin. The homes are locked off from each other with no shared spaces. They’re available to help with anything you may need, but will respect your privacy throughout your stay.

Our hosts live on site and will respect your privacy while you enjoy the space, but they’re available to assist if needed.

The cabin is located in Volcano Village, a quiet and small town known for its active arts center, a handful of restaurants, and cozy coffee shops. Thanks to the abundant sunshine and rainfall, the area is filled with lush foliage and thriving wildlife.

Due to the village’s remoteness, having a car is essential—not only for getting to and from the area but also for easier access to the National Park.

There is also a small cottage adjacent to the cabin that shares the driveway. This space may house other Airbnb guests but is a great option if you're traveling with a large group. Discounts can be offered if you book the cabin and cottage together.
The property is shared with another Airbnb listing. Please keep outside noise to a minimum.

We had a fantastic stay at Kamaka Cabin! Its convenient location near Kīlauea made it perfect for visiting the volcano both during the day and in the evening. The cabin was incredibly clean and spacious, making it ideal for larger groups. Next time we're in the Volcano area, we’ll definitely book Kamaka Cabin again!

We had a good time at the Volcano National Park and did several hikes. The place was close to the park and communications with the manager was good. Nice big living room and outdoor patio that we enjoyed.

Property is generally as it appears on the AB&B listing. MBR bath (walk-in tub) needs to be renovated.

Great house with plenty of space. Voluminous vaulted ceilings in the main room with massive window wall, great inside outside feel. Five minutes from everything in town. House manager lives downstairs and was very welcoming, made us feel at home.

We enjoyed Kamaka cabin…the spacious second floor and the loft. The games were very much appreciated… especially since it rained day and night . My only concern the outside light near the stairs going up to the second floor , does not light up. Making it hard to see at night in the dark…we had to use our phones for light .

Plenty of space. A little musty inside. Parking is a bit tight if all three units are occupied. Had issues with water cutting off, and it took quite awhile for hot water to develop for showers. Great location to Volcano National Park. House just needs a few upgrades, but it was fine.
