I was really excited about my first trip to Spain. I was there for a conference, but my experience at this hotel was derailed the moment I interacted with the front desk staff on Wednesday at about 10:30 AM (3/5).
I had made a mistake with my reservation. I thought I had booked a room with three beds because there was an extra person traveling with me. When I realized the confusion, I tried to correct it and agreed to pay any additional fee if needed. However, I was confused because it seemed like they wanted to charge me per day for a bed that I believed I had already paid for.
There was clearly a language barrier. I do not speak Spanish well, and the employee assisting me did not speak English very well. Instead of trying to resolve the misunderstanding, she became visibly upset and rude. She rolled her eyes, refused to get a manager when I asked, and even laughed in my face while standing with three other employees. No one corrected her behavior.
We had just arrived after a 10-hour flight and asked about early check-in. She said no, yet I watched several other people with suitcases get checked in and go to their rooms while we had to wait until 2 PM.
I was also not allowed to complete my transaction and receive my room key later. Another gentleman later helped me finish the process once I was finally able to get to my room. During payment, I asked if I should pay in euros or American dollars. The agent assisting me was unsure "
