A Hidden Gem Beyond All Expectations
While searching for a place to stay near Sultan Sazlığı, we came across Theodora Village House. The photos were appealing, so we decided to give it a try. Honestly, given that it’s located in a small, little-known village, we didn’t expect too much and even hesitated to ask for dinner, assuming there wouldn't be any nearby options.
But from the moment we arrived, our expectations were not only exceeded, they were completely redefined. The hotel is far more beautiful than it appears in the photos, with carefully decorated rooms and an atmosphere that blends charm and authenticity. What made our stay truly unforgettable, however, was the warm and genuine hospitality of the family who runs the place. Zafer Bey, his wife, and their children welcomed us not like guests, but like family visiting from afar. Dinner was a feast: slow-cooked veal in clay pots prepared in their traditional tandır oven, local beans with the same care, and countless side dishes turned the meal into a celebration. Breakfast, too, was entirely homemade and full of regional flavors. Though our stay was short, we left with hearts full and spirits lifted. A special highlight was visiting the namesake of the hotel, the enchanting and little-known chapel. We were guided by Zafer Bey’s daughter, Aylan Hanım, an archaeologist, who not only showed us around but shared its story with vivid memories passed down through the family. It was truly magical. Theodora is not just a place to stay, it’s a place to remember
