"I used Chuzenji Kanaya hotel as a hikers stop. The walk up from the town was pretty and the hotel was very smart, clean and friendly. The WiFi was poor but the full sized bath, comfortable bed and room facilities were all super. "

"The property is located in a convenient location with lots of dining options. There is busy night life in the neighbourhood which may feel dodgy to walk solo at night but Japan is a very safe country as a whole. Rooms are small but clean. We booked separate rooms for each of us and the prices were very reasonable. The rooms were newly refurbished and very clean. Staff was courteous and helpful. Public parking was available within a short walk. All in all, a comfortable quick stop on a road trip. "

"The hotel provides a great experience of a Japanese Onsen with traditional rooms with a modern feel and great food. The location overlooking Lake Chuzenji is very tranquil. A great place to go for some peace after the frenzy of Tokyo"

"Extremely remote (nearly a 3 hour bus ride from Kinegawa Onsen Train station into the winding mountains) which was both an adventure and unnerving. Made to feel like a foreigner with little help in understanding the cultural norms as a newcomer to the onsen experience. The in-suite onsen option was incredible, providing both privacy and ability to enjoy the experience as a newcomer free of the "ritual" imposed but not well explained for use of the public hot pools. Hatcho No Yu was ultimately a memory for a lifetime but came with a less than supportive interface with staff who treated us like we didnt belong. "

"We went to the hotel without much expectation. There were three hot spring which you can use privately for an hour, but it was off season so we were very lucky. It was old and cozy we loved staying there."

"We have stayed in Nagaoka a few times. This hotel is the best. The staff are extremely kind and accommodating. The breakfast buffet is probably the best in all of Niigata prefecture. The rooms are renovated leaving us with the best large and highest pressure shower I've ever had."
