Historic Strater Hotel

"This is a lovely historic hotel in the ideal location in downtown Durango. The two taverns with live music had good food and drinks but we mostly enjoyed the music. The whole hotel has such an elegant decor. We loved our stay and would recommend this hotel."

"We've stayed here 4 times now, I think. It's a nice place in the price range we needed. We arrived late, and they called to let us know they would put our key in the lockbox. One big problem that is easily solved is that the street light comes into the room VERY bright! Use an eye mask. Definitely use an eye mask!! This time the continental breakfast left much to be desired - not many choices. I wonder if that's hit-or-miss? The bed wasn't the most comfortable - kind of hard and flat. The pillows were huge and puffy. I fixed it the second day by putting a pillow under my knees and sleeping on my back, then it was fine. It's very convenient to Old Town Durango, which is a reason to stay. The railroad depot has a free museum. It's terrific! FREE! I highly recommend it, and it's nearly right next door to the hotel. Parking is difficult in the lot if it's busy, but Friday evening to Sunday, you can park in metered spaces free of charge."

"Was in town for a few nights to ride the train to Silverton. Found this place only a few miles from the station. Check-in was super easy and room was clean. Only complaint was I heard more noise from surrounding rooms but it was no excessive."

"Generally the hotel overall does need a bit of a face-lift. It is quite dated! However my husband and I had a very spacious room, with a small refrigerator, a microwave and a small terrace leading to the river and river walk. Very quiet and scenic! The hotel is dog friendly, many dogs were there, but sound proofing must be good, because we never heard any noise. Our room would have been perfect for a doggie family, Bruno could go straight to the grass, without going through the hotel. If you plan to use the microwave, take your own microwaveable containers, none are provided."
