Not a lot to see within walking distance of the hotel but a good base to explore the Brecon Beacons and the Welsh valleys.

The outside was ok. The bar and restaurant areas were ok.But room 5 where I stayed was in poor condition. The wallpaper was peeling from the walls , the woodwork needed painting. Generally the room was grubby and needed complete renovation. The electrical wiring looked as if didn’t appear to code.I booked the hotel for two nights but just left after the first night. I would not recommend this hotel.

Lovely little pub not far out of Merthyr Tydfil and a 20 minute drive from Pen y fan. The double room was small but cosy for one and the was a good shower and plenty of tea. Service was excellent, with a warm welcome and useful information. I was there for two nights and the room wasn't refreshed but this wasn't a problem for me. Breakfast was excellent and there is a great selection of for for dinner in the pub for great prices.

This was a listed building in a convenient area. As it was an old building it shows signs of wear and tear. We chose this hotel as it was dog friendly and we needed this option. I feel that the dog friendly rooms were at the top of the building under the eaves which made the head height difficult and as the bathroom floor sloped a lot gave a strange feeling like being on a boat . Apart from that the beds were comfortable but as the room was small the tv was small and not in a convenient location for viewing. The staff were friendly and the meals we took were great. It is not 4 star but suited our needs and was a good price.

Addition of bedside tables, table and chair, more storage and slightly larger TV would improve facilities in the room. Hot water, shower, room temperature and bed all good. Overall, good value for money. A comfortable stay with a great breakfast included in the price.

Value for money and a good location for exploring the Brecon Beacons. Didn’t always seem to get hot water coming through and the shower was quite small, but otherwise a good stay. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room, overall a great low budget option.

We had a really lovely stay here last weekend, the landlord was very welcoming and helpful and the chef was also very helpful and attentive. The pub had a great local atmosphere in the evening, and we really enjoyed our stay. The room was also very clean.

It was OK for a one night stay; the bed was squeeking every time we turned on it (did not sleep well because of it), there wasn't a curtain so the room was lit up from sun-up and it looked like there hadn't been vacuumed in a while. The breakfast was lovely though, and the folks running the place were friendly and accomodating.

Stayed as part of the business trip in the area The look of the place is a very 70s looking traditional countryside pub and hotel which gave a unique character to the place The staff were amazing and incredibly helpful and looked after us nothing was any trouble at all Would definitely stay again for a business trip

My partner and myself had a lovely stay. The staff are very friendly , polite and professional , with nothing being too much trouble. The venue itself is on a hill with lovely view of the surrounding fields. It has a olde worlde feel with beautiful oak beams as part of its pub features and brass adornments on the wall. The bedrooms are clean and inviting with full tea and coffee making facilities , TV and shower and we had a good night's sleep waking up refreshed in the morning. . We partook of their dining facilities the night we checked in ,, having an evening meal , their menu choices were excellent including venison and rabbit dishes to name but two and the food was mouthwatering and delicious . Their prices are very competitive providing value for money We also ordered drinks with a pint of Ale and a cider coming to under £6 a round. .Morning breakfast which is included in the price had a good choice of cereals , toast , cooked breakfast , coffee, tea, orange juice , we opted for cooked breakfast and coffee and were not disappointed. Checking out was as easy and effortless as checking in we simply handed the key back . It is the second time we have stayed at the Rhymney hotel and we have plans to stay again in the not too distant future
