Christ in the desert monastery in northern New Mexico near Abiquiu was founded in 1964 by Aelred Wall. The monastery is only accessible by traveling 13 miles down a dirt forest service road. The monks make soaps, candles and beer.

Chama Crossing - Caboose-Whiplash

"Fantastic! No hassle occupancy, downtown location, directly across from Chama railyards for that authentic whistle-stop experience! We walked the friendly village, ate the absolute best tacos in New Mexico at "My Mom and Dad's Restaurant" then slept in the dreamy silence of starry night skies. The Caboose was everything and MORE! What a COOL experience to stay in a beautiful train car! Everything was First Class for comfort and convenience! But beware: the neighborhood Chihuahua is a total Alley Bully! Wonderful experience! Kudos to our hosts for a great stay!! "
