To see a photograph taken from the same viewpoint but looking in the opposite direction, click here 587578. To see a more easterly (ahead) photograph of the footpath, click here 587571. To see a more westerly (behind the viewpoint) photograph of the footpath, click here 587608. (The route of this footpath bears only a passing relationship to that shown on some OS Maps.)
Tibshelf Common. This south south-easterly facing photograph is of the Pilsley-Tibshelf section of the Five Pits Trail as it crosses Tibshelf Common. At the viewpoint the Five Pits Trail is crossed by a lane. To the left (east north-easterly) is the northern loop of 635430, whilst to the right (south-westerly) the 635437 continues toward Westwood House. Tibshelf Common (the grassy area ahead) was once a cutting carrying the Great Central Railway. The cutting was filled in when the land was reclaimed during the late 1960's / early 1970's. To see a more north north-westerly (behind the viewpoint) photograph of the trail, click here 625583. To see another photograph of the common, taken by Alan Heardman from the other (southerly) end, click here 588385.
