Balm for the soul!
The main trail in Altyn-Arashan takes about 5 or 6 hours and ends here in a valley with some Yurt Camps and hot springs which are a nice reward after the hike. From here you can do some different hikes to higher parts if there’s not too much snow, or just relax before heading back to Karakol.

August 2013 Altyn Arashan valley, Terskey Alatau On the road from Altyn Arashan village to Ak-su. It takes some 3 to 4 hours to get there and from Ak-su you can stop marshrutka bus to Karakol. The altitude is ca. 2.500 and Ak-su is some 2.000. From Karakol you can catch another marshrutka eastwards along the south shore of Issyk-kul to Kaji Say or Balykchy or westwards to get to the north shore to Cholpon Ata (interesting petroglyphs there).
