The Spanish border is a mere 20km away. The villa is served by the local characterful village of Santo Estevao, with a shop, cafe, restaurant and all important ATM and Pharmacy. Beaches, golf courses and water parks are all within easy reach by car, as is Faro airport 25 minutes away. There are some wonderful walks and picnic spots to the north with incredible views of the countryside and ocean. The town of Tavira has a distinctly Venetian flavour and lies within the unspoilt countryside of the Eastern Algarve. There a variety of reasonably priced restaurants and bars serving both traditional Portuguese and international fare to suit all tastes and pockets. The daily fish and general market serves as its epicentre with the old Roman bridge dating back to the Roman occupation. The town developed by the Arab occupation and was conquered by the Portuguese in 1242. By the 16th century, Tavira served as a major port in the Algarve.
