Tapay is a small village in the Colca Canyon, 2900 metres above sea level. Most organised treks don't include a visit here, so if you really want to get off the beaten track, come to Tapay.

Its elevation affords some stunning views across the surrounding countryside, and if you arrive mid-afternoon (as we did) it is unlikely you will see any other locals here, let alone other tourists. Rustic, authentic, isolated, and beautifully peaceful, Tapay can easily be visited in a 2-day self-guided trek from Cabanaconde.
