Truthfully, in pictures, this place looks great and charming. Getting there, check in was lousy and we were given no information other than the key to our room. The staff were kind enough to help us with our bags up the stairs. There is no “free parking” as listed on Expedia, but there is a parking lot nearby that’s only a few dollars. The rooms require you to open the windows at night and there’s no screen, so bugs or whatever else can easily come in which was not great. The shower is small and the shower curtain is constantly touching you the entire time. The mattress is OK but the pillows are laughably terrible. The staff’s communication was confusing and led to us paying 60 euros for dinner at the hotel that they kept giving us the impression that it was “already paid for,” but what they should have said was it was “already reserved” I.e. we had made a reservation with them for dinner months prior and forgot, but we could’ve cancelled and had a far superior dinner elsewhere for less. Their dinner was ok but definitely not worth 60 euros, and even the service during the dinner was poor. I personally wouldn’t stay there again, but I’d say the place has charm but perhaps some tuning up is needed

An oasis right outside the medina. So peaceful and quiet for being in such a central and busy location. The staff and their hospitality is top notch! Loved the resident cat Simon as well!

This property is in a perfect location for exploring Tangier, right in between the old and new town. Our room was amazing and the property is beautiful. It was so great to come back and relax at the pool after a day of exploring. The staff was also very helpful with everything we needed.

A rare gem in the big city
The staff, their hospitality, friendliness, time for conversation about everything including the history of this place, rooms, location, view from the terrace - everything was just incredible. It’s a rare treasure to find this place in such a big city. The outside did not give a clue on the beauty inside. Highly, highly recommend this place. Thanks for everything !!!

Amazing property. It’s an oasis just few minutes walk from the medina or from the marina. Perfect location. The staff are amazing too. Abdo and Yousef we cannot thank you enough for your warm hospitality and kindness. The decor and conditions of the house take you back in time. The gardens are also amazing We stayed here two nights when we arrived in Tanger and in fact it was so good we decided to come back at the end of our trip for two more nights.

It doesn’t get better.....
I can’t imagine a better place to stay in Tangier. Beautiful, elegant, comfortable rooms, delicious food, friendly and helpful staff. Mimi Calpe is a ten minute easy walk from the ferry terminal, and behind an unassuming door is a small oasis, wreathed in plants, patrolled by tortoises, with a perfect pool and views across the city. The only difficulty is motivating yourself to go out and explore the exciting, messy, beautiful city. We can’t recommend this hotel enough.

A delightful gem tucked away in a heavenly garden
What a gorgeous villa to retreat to after getting lost in the medina. Our host Hachim was absolutely delightful and looked after us with so much warmth and kindness, and his cooking is delightful! The garden is gorgeous, and I would definitely stay here again if I visit Tangier again. I cannot recommend it enough.

Beautiful Centrally Located Colonial Villa
Mimi Calpe is a beautiful vintage colonial style villa that is very central and walkable to most of the main attractions of Tangier. The rooms are clean and comfortable and stylishly appointed in a boutique style, with wonderful vintage vibe and charm. We were treated well during our stay, and we awoke each day to a wonderful breakfast with fresh juice and other delights. We didn't have much luck with WiFi in our room, but it's accessible in the common area, and the rooms are typical for Tangier with tile floors and tall ceilings. There's a ton of charm, but not a lot of modern conveniences, so keep that in mind if that's what you are seeking. We loved it, and we would stay here again.

Oasis
Mimi Calpe is a beautiful property and a special place. An oasis in a chaotic town, we were surprised how quiet the Garden Suite was even though it's right on a busy road. We all slept well in firm, comfortable beds with quality linens. Mou Mou, the concierge and all-around star of the staff (also the only one who speaks English or French) even cooked us dinner on our first night after the chef told us it would be impossible. We loved the location on the edge of the medina and near the new part of town. 5 min walk to the American Legation, the port or Place de France. The one drawback was the communication ahead of time by email (with Baptiste, whom we never met). We had requested a cab from the airport and dinner the first night, both of which were confirmed within a week of our arrival and neither of which were planned for. It was only because of Mou Mou's kindness and above and beyond graciousness that we had a meal at Mimi Calpe our first night. There is room for improvement in communication, but otherwise we would highly recommend Mimi Calpe. Many many thanks to Mou Mou!

Perfect. Colonial Past. Gorgeous Property.
The Mimi Calpe is certainly an unique place to stay. I suppose it was an old manor house when originally built. Comprised of a couple of buildings, all of the rooms seem spacious. (We stayed in the "Garden Suite" which was comprised of two bedrooms, living room, and bathroom. It was wonderful.). Nothing is modern certainly not sterile like a new Hilton. But cimfortable and welcoming. Walk through the parlor rooms on the Second level of the Main House. Gorgeous! The pool area is very picturesque. The pool water inviting. It seems to be salt water and not chorinated. Breakfast is served each morning: breads, jams, and omelet if you like. The tea is traditional Moroccan mint tea. (If you want a nice English Breakfast, pack a box of Twinings before you travel.). The only complaint that I have would is that the WiFi does not reach all parts of the complex. The center counrtyard is optimal. I would typically sit on the stoop to my suite for WiFi access. When returning to Tangier, short of staying at the Mirage at Hercules Grotto, the Mimi Calpe would be the place for me.

Oasis in the city
An excellent villa, lovely gardens and surroundings, with excellent views of the city from the swimming pool area. It was amazing to come from the city streets and close the door into an oasis of peace and natural beauty. The rooms were excellent and cleaned everyday. The staff were very polite and caring to all our needs, especially the lovely lady manager, who cared for all the visitors staying there. Also children and adults enjoyed the company of the adorable pet dog Maggie, who added an extra special experience to the trip. We also enjoyed a pool party with a piano and live music that was put on for the guests, a wonderful experience.

Lovely decor and ambiance, but a bit disappointing
My friend and I were travelling around Morocco for 10 days and Tangier was our last stop before heading back to London. Decor and setting wise, Mimi Calpe is absolutely beautiful! It looks and feels like a Pinterest dream house. Unfortunately, it seems like so much attention has gone into making the place look nice that the actual guest experience hasn't been considered. We arrived by overnight train from Marrakesh early in the morning. I had emailed a few days before to arrange a transport from the train station to the hotel (a service that they advertised could be provided) and to advise that we would be coming in at 6:30am, but was told to contact the house manager directly to arrange this. I called and messaged her several times leading up to our arrival, even had the concierge in Marrakesh try, but never received any response back. Finally, we just ended up hailing a taxi from the train station. There also wasn't anyone around to check us in when we got to the hotel and had to wait 1.5 hours just for a staff member to arrive. The whole time we were there the staff were pretty elusive, and hard to communicate with (even though my friend and I both speak French). There were also so many mosquitoes in the room and we got tons of bug bites in there, despite not having gotten any anywhere else in Morocco. We paid the full amount through Expedia, but still had to pay taxes when checking out and hidden fees. WiFi wasn't available in the rooms, only reception area.

Lovely, until you learn the hidden costs!
I was prepared to give this a 5 star review until we needed to settle incidentals upon checking out. We had agreed to a dinner on the first night that we were told would be 20 euros. I asked, in poor French, if that was for both of us and heard "yes". Upon check out we were charged 40 euros for a dinner consisting of chicken with olives and a salad. All very good but definitely not worth 20 euros each. We were also asked if we wanted wine with dinner, which surprised us, yet we replied "yes". Today, upon check-out, we were asked to pay 20 euros for that wine. It was a very poor bottle of Moroccan wine that we couldn't finish. Never imagined that it would be 20 euros!! I don't pay that much for a very good bottle at home!! Additionally, upon arrival we were asked to pay for the room. I was surprised by this because the booking agency told me it was paid for in advance. I showed the Madame the email confirmation and she stated that she hadn't received any money and we needed to get the cash. After 2 withdrawals of 2000 dirham each (max from the ATM) with fees, we returned to the hotel to pay and she stated that indeed it was paid for. Now we had 4000 dirham we didn't need. I asked her to exchange it into euros for us and she advised that I go to the money changers in the market - who would give us 15% less than what it was worth. All of this left me with a very bitter taste. Though this property is lovely, I wouldn't stay there again and don't recommend it.
