"We stayed at Derwent as a base for exploring Northumbria. The hotel is set within a large and beautiful green space. Very clean and modern interior. The restaurant (bar) served great comfort food at very reasonable prices. Recommend including the breakfast in the reservation - high quality english breakfast buffet to start each day. We will be returning for our next trip “up north”, hopefully in August. 5/5 stars! Loved it!"

"Amazing hotel in an historic building which is beautifully maintained! It is an architectural treasure. It was built in the 19th century as the City Council Chambers and has fabulous stained glass, tilework and woodwork. The dining room is an architect's dream - originally the council chambers. Our room was so incredible, I could have stayed here for months. Restaurant was delicious and the staff in this hotel were very good. "
