One of the best we've ever stayed in
A small farmhouse that has been restored with great taste. It lies on a plateau just outside the charming town of St-Remy; just a few minutes drive will bring you to shops, bars, restaurants and petrol stations.
There are views to the Alpilles from the top of the plateau and several tracks in the surrounding nature reserve.
Inside was plesantly warm during our stay (mid-March), with two reversible air-conditioning units and a lovely wood-pellet-burning stove that heated up the main rooms very quickly.
The kitchen had everything you need to make a good meal and of course the view out of the window is stunning!
The beds are comfortable (although we found the pillows too soft, but that's a personal thing), the rooms are dark once the shutters are closed. The upstairs bathroom door lies at the turn of the staircase so we used a torch at night. People more than 1.80m high might find the beams and the sloping ceilings upstairs a bit of a nuisance too.
These are just minor niggles and did not at all spoil a wonderful week. St-Remy is well placed for trips to stunning places within one hour's drive; we went to the walled town of Aigues-Mortes, the hilltop citadel of Les Baux,an ornithological park in the Camargue to see flamingos and the magical Pont du Gard. Avignon and Villeneuve would also be reachable but we know them well already.
Genevieve lives in the big farm next door and is a terrific hostess, quick to reply and solve any problems. A little French would be helpful.
