"Beautiful spot, but difficult to access without a rental car. We were travelling on foot/train/bus and we had to rely solely on the 2 or 3 taxis in the township. The walk was ok downhill, but very arduous going back (We're in our 70's). We chose Varenna as it much more affordable than Ballagio, and the views are simply breathtaking. "Amazing stay with brilliant hosts"

"My husband and I stayed for a week with another couple and their dog. The apartment was clean and comfortable and the balconies had amazing views over the lake. You could not be closer to ferry docks and restaurants. It was quiet and relaxing. The little market at top of street had wonderful produce and shopkeepers were very helpful in ensuring we had excellent ingredients for our dinners.
