A hotel that has seen better days

The hotel seems to have seen better days - we found out from Singapore-based friends that the hotel will be torn down soon and rebuilt. The room furntiure and fittings are tacky and the carpet is musty. We were given a room that looks into the corridors -even the concierge remarked, at the time of our checking out, that the reception staff had given us a poor deal. The breakfast was rather basic and the ice kachang we had was terrible and practically inedible. The capuchino was so-so. One good feature was the shuttle service to Orchard Road which was frequent, punctual and efficient .

Closing

As I write this, this once grand and excellent hotel is closing down for demolition. It is a chanin hotel and no doubt its sister hotels in Singapore are equally well serviced.

just a simple ordinary 3 stars hotel

nothing special about the hotel, as they are about to be closed down by the end of March 2011 for a big renovation. That's why when we arrived there are so many groups like school-groups or athletes-group or big tourist-groups that make the lobby and the restaurant where we have our breakfast becoming so noisy and UN-comfortable. We suspect that since the hotel is about to be demolished, they invited so many groups to stay. We got the deluxe room and my other friend got a standard room with the same price, but the facilities and conditions of room are so different. I'm so lucky i get the better one on the deluxe room.

cosy hotel good value

Stayed a week here and was pleased with the comfort and service. The location is a very big inconvenience however there is a bus that goes to orchard road and back regularly. MRT is a long walk away and No shops nearby. Room was clean and balcony was a great bonus. No master switch for the lights was a little irritating too. A satisfying hotel if you don't mind taking transport.

1. least known , least preferred by taxis, peril to get taxi when you are night-out ,this hotel soon to be replaced by flats, i heard, so everything old. unfriendly to guest ,misnomer to call copthorne orchard.metro is miles away. cheated by taxi

room was spacious,with bathub and everything that i needs in it,pity was air con was not functioning well at night which makes me hard to sleep breakfast buffet was good =)

There is a strong smell of mould throughout the building that's noticeable as soon as you step into the hotel lobby. Fortunately the odour was less noticeable in the rooms, although there was some mould on the tiles in the bathroom/shower area. The front desk staff, while polite and friendly, seemed to be very poorly trained, as they had little/no knowledge about the area or any local attractions. The hotel is located in a somewhat isolated residential area, away from any subway stations, with the nearest attraction being the Botanical Gardens, which are about a 10 minute walk away. However, the surroundings are quiet, and the hotel does provide a free shuttle service that drops you off on Scotts Road, very close to Orchard and the MRT -- took the shuttle downtown whenever I went just about anywhere. There are large banners to promote a new condominium development on the site of the Copthorne Orchid hotel. One of the (few) knowledgeable staff members I spoke to said that the hotel will be closing in April 2011 for demolition to make way for the new development.

The hotel was very tired, i gather it is closing soon

The room was clean but the bathroom had mold growing & the plug in the bath had jammed so the water could not escape. The room & the whole wing of the hotel I stayed in smelt very damp & moldy. I have been told though the hotel is being pulled down soon so maybe no maintenance is being done

if you like hard beds

The beds were extremely hard and we couldn't sleep very well, Staff didn't seem to understand what I was asking when I asked did they have a room with a softer bed. We met another couple who also had the same problem that they couldn't sleep because of the hard bed. I think Hotels should have a mixture of beds and when you book there so be a question as to what type of bed you would like. I wouldn't stay there again only because of the bed.

The hotel is getting old. Some rooms are good, some rooms are not. It locates near botanical garden which is convenience for people who like to visit botanical garden. It is also close to the city, so it is not expensive to take a taxi to go to the city. The hotel is situated in the quiet residential neighborhood, so it is safe and nice. I have stayed in this hotel for a few times already. They told me they are going to demolish the building to give way to the condos. That is a pity. Otherwise, I will always come back to it.

This hotel is VERY CLOSE TO DOWNTOWN ...if that`s what you want.... book here...cause it`s not that expensive...considering what`s around you...and the prices they charge. I must of been back 4 to 5 time now.

quite a comfortable hotel, reasonably priced. Shuttle bus service to Orchard Rd, only a 5 minute drive. Staff very friendly. A nice size pool.

worst hotel

This is not a 3 star hotel, its more like a -1.5. The walls have mold on them, there are stains all over the walls, the toilet flush does not work. The staff is unfriendly and there are people sitting in the lobby to be roommed for hours at a time. over all a horrible experience.
